She never used to do it but I noticed when she really goes off on a big purring session usually because she´s on my lap or shoulder she has started drooling. She´s seven and hasn´t got any teeth problems as far as I can see. My neighbours cat drools when he´s being petted but my cat never used to do it.

My cat Felix used to to that all the time. He had done it from when he was a kitten and was in perfect health.
As soon as was content and started purring the drooling started.

I her teeth and gums are OK, them she is probably just going back to kittenhood a bit. Is it on a particular wooly jumper perhaps?

Actually I was wearing my fluffy dressing gown at the time but I have worn it around her before.

She probably just got a bit passionate with the fluffy fabric

Sucking is a one thing but drooling is another..referring to what oldlwoman said..
they do suck wooly things but i think this drooling thing has nothing to do with wool..or kittenhood.
My former cat drooled also when purring..he started to do it around the age of 10.. He was healthy in everyway..just a bit silly and getting old...
And that sucking thing..some cats do that..my former cat that was taken away from his mother too early sucked wool and other things.

My cat drools like CRAZY when she gets really content.. I mean.. she leaves a puddle in my hand and she´s been doing it since a kitten. Its kinda gross but I love her LOL

I´ve had 2-3 cats who when they were very happy and content they would drool, usually in my hair cuz thats where they wanted to be. I have one cat now who sucks on my shirts. She has done it since she was a kitten. She climbs in my lap and lays down and starts sucking on my shirt, then she reaches up and licks my nose then my chin and then my nose again and goes back to sucking on my shirt. She is such a sweetie!

i HAVE NOTICE THAT THE CATS THAT ARE LOVING AND VERY EFECTIONATE ARE THE ONES WHO DROOL, IN OUR CASE IT´S BECAUSE SHE IS SO HAPPY AND FORGETS TO SWOLLOW, SO WE KIND OF RUB HER THROAT AND SAY SWOLLOW HONEY YOUR DROOLING AGAIN. I THINK THEY JUST LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND CAN´T HELP IT.

My Bodie always dribbles when he is happy and purring. He has done it since he was a baby. He also loves to suck on my clothes or the blankets when he is paddy pawing. I love when he shakes his head and big sprays of dribble go flying. Everyone gets a shower!!!!!

I know of a cat who drools too and you almost have to have a towel to wipe because he drools so much and I mean a lot its like having large wet spots all over where he is laying and oh boy this boy can purrr too.

Mugger has always drooled a bit when he´s purring hard. I wonder if it isn´t a normal physical thing - purring involves muscles and other structures in the throat, so maybe they physically can´t swallow while they´re purring heavily. Hence, drool.

Thank God, ive found this... whenever i say my cat drools everyone goes ´eeew´. I think its adorable, cause he´s obviously enjoying himself so much..i agree with the swallowing thing, too.. Myszka seems to sort of forget i guess, and ends up smacking and swallowing...I think its cute! And he´s done it since he was a kitten and he´s fit as a fiddle!!

it is pretty gross isnt it? one of mine does that too

hey i have a cat that does it n she is a female. She had kittens and 1 of them does it too. I think its just somthin they get used to when they r a kitten like when they suckle from the mother. Bit like when we suck our thumbs n grow out of it. But somtimes they dnt grown out of it. I think its the same principle.
Thanks
