Can you share your ideas on what you need to keep your cat from being bored when you´re not at home please? A second cat is not an option for me at this stage.

All of my kitties are totally indoor cats, to keep them occupied they have a large cat post (there is a pic of it on my cats page) heaps of cat friendly toys like toy mice, balls with bells, small soft toys. I also give them plenty of empty boxes to play in, scrunched up alfoil balls(they love them), milk top lids, toilet & paper towels rolls and a few pots of grass (all of these are free so when they get chewed or need replacing they cost you nothing too). Hope this will give you some ideas to help little Sophie keep busy inside!!!! (she´s such a sweetie!) When I´m not home I also leave the TV on for them, with one of their favourite movies playing too.

Hmm, sounds like a young cat. Giving attention when you are home, music a good scratch post, things to climb on, open windows with windowsills are great when the warm weather is here as long as security is okay. Food and water, but not too much food. Toys that your kitty likes, that might help, and cat nip. But especially, give attention and love when you are home and keep socializing with your kitty to make her or him feel secure!1 lots of luck and love. Tracy

Yes she´s 6 months. She likes to play - but she gets bored with the old stuff - which is why I asked - thanks for your ideas.

My daughter has a fish bowl, complete with a fighting fish that has a great tail to watch, and a lizard, named Yoda....both give her two indoor cats lots of amusement but when you are dealing with a kitten, fifty million toys, catnip scented (if you cat has the gene that makes it like catnip), large paper shopping bags on the floor with a pretend mouse or a ball inside and cardboard boxes with the same or similar inside, ribbons tied around a doorknob on a closed door are also fun along with the usual balls on the floor and various toys one can buy at the pet store (my cats love the fake mice that look very real with some kind of fur (I suspect rabbit or the fake fur is really good at fooling me and the cats....ha!)).
My other daughter always has the bags or boxes in odd places along with one in the center of the room, so her cat can ´find´ the exciting things inside (she has gone as long as a week, leaving things to amuse the cat...I and others come in each day and check on the cat and pet it a lot).
Just make sure the toys don´t have very small pieces or pieces that can detach. Cats can swallow them and hurt themselves. Due to that, I would not give a kitten or even a full grown cat anything with feathers unless I was present (and I know they handle birds and their feathers outside if they catch one).

Especially for the warning - I hadn´t thought of those things. Just like babies!

I didnt read evryones comments to this, so sorry if i say what you said. I think you should just Make some Climbing places, maybe some toys too, like a fake mouse and put it under something they can get under and make sure they can see it. My cats like balloons, You could make a small little balloon with out helium[to make sure it doesnt float] and just put it somewhere. maybe even a sting on the doorknob, they will love that!! I dont know anything else...

I hang ribbons with little bells in the doorknobs, made them tunnels and houses with boxes and old bottles of water and a little ladder with a flat surface at the top... I also hanged a bird feeder outside a window and they all love top watch this "big high resolution window" ha ha

My Oliver is pretty active as an inside cat, and luckily I stay home most of the time to serve him, but when we are out for more than a few hours obviously he just sleeps away, and welcomes us with a lot of yawning and sleepy eyes. From what I heard this is pretty common, so perhaps just providing him a comfy sleeping spot? (we close the door of the bed room as sometimes he goes crazy on the bed clawing and bunnykicking on the sheets, which we would like to avoid while he stay unsupervised!)

Tegan likes to climb....so a multi level climbing frame might work. She loves bits of newspaper tied to string attached to doorknobs too! Tegan also likes rubber balls in the hallway she can bat up and down. Hope this all helps!

I have cat beds everywhere, cat trees, toys, boxes, tunnels and anything else I think might entertain them. When you are home, experiment with different toys and things, to see what your puss likes best.
Also have a window that gets the afternoon sun available for them. Afternoon naps in the sun are a cats idea of pure bliss. Good Luck.

You spoil them all too Furrypaws? lol. Tegan has a fluffy teddy she picks up in her mouth and carries like a kitten...until she gets bored, drops it and attacks it lol.

Of course they are spoilt! Queenie has a blue face washer she just loves. If I try and pick it up she takes off with it! Skitz has a stuffed pony. Queenie has her white rat too. Skitz loves marbles. He carries them around and drops them everywhere. When we moved the fridge in the house move we found like 20 marbles under there!!! He loves anything where they make noise when he drops them.
I love it when they do the kangaroo kicks to their toys when they attack. So funny!

bratzandcatz, What film do you cats enjoy watching? I have also lots of climbing trees, a tunnel, and their toys all over the place. I also put some book shelves in places so that they can get onto those. When I am at home they love playing with their "DaBIRD" toy, paper balls and strings with little bells. Also nice places for them to sit where they can observe the outside world.

Although my this is not for entertaining a cat while you are gone, just remembered my daughter bought a flashlight with a narrow red beam and her cats go crazy chasing that point of light......makes you wonder how they think is has substance, but chase it, they do!

The bird feeder works really well for my two—the birds are safe and the cats gets their own version of "Animal Planet" TV. The only time things get a little traumatic are those few occasions when the buzzards land on the balcony. Then we go from light entertainment to horror movies!
