pecking order

Our cats have a definte pecking order when it comes to food. Cleo is first for tea in the afternoon, Julius sometimes shares but mostly waits until shes had enough. Merlin im afraid is last to the bowl. He usually just has a lick round of whats left - its fair really he´s fat and lazy for being in all the time! Just wondering if your cats have their own bowls or if one has first choice and in what order

My two boys share but they make my little girl wait until they are through. So that she doesn´t have to eat their "left overs", I sneak her a bowl of her own food when they aren´t looking...

It isn´t so much that Chloe lets Harley eat first it is more of she doesn´t want to be in his way when he wants food for fear of becoming collateral damage.

missy, bootsie & tootsie have their own soft food bowls...but they have to share from 2 hard food bowls and one water bowl. it all works our pretty well.

all my cats (4) have there own food and water dishes because they all have different dietary needs

My cats don´t really care. Tawe bosses Dylan about and Powy is scared of her, but she´s not really fussed about food. (Strange cos she´s the fattest lol). They´re really all quite good. Although they do have a bad habit of licking all the jelly / gravy off first, then Gwen drags bits onto the floor... arghh.

Mugger drags his food around sometimes, too. He´ll grab a huge mouthful and then come in and drop it onto the rug, to consume a little more leisurely. I don´t get it - I think in his former home, where there was another cat, that the other cat used to bully him away from the food so he learned this snatch-and-run habit early.

24.January 2008 23:54

I guess with one cat its easier but Zvoni like to throw his food out of the bowl and then eat it!

Kashmir always eats from the same bowl, never anyother ones and thanjust chews and chews and chews, and it´s just So Loud! It´s even worse with wet food! But because she is the only cat we have there isn´t much of a pecking order, unless the dogs are nearby or she´d prefer to play with a skink instead.

My cats don´t really have a pecking order when it comes to food. They all share their food and their bowls. It all depends on who is the hungriest or who is there first. They have a big bowl of biscuits out all the time to snack on when they are feeling peckish. Then have a selection of different things they can choose from so they all don´t usually want the same thing at the same time. Christina is a bit special and she gets dinner to herself because she likes it on top of her wardrobe and wont eat anywhere else. If there is some special food (like prawns or take away chicken) that they are getting they usually gather round in a big circle and I hand feed it to them one at a time.

My Sunny and Angie have no problem with sharing - they each have wet food dishes and each sticks to his/her own - but Angie only licks the wet. Both share a dry food dish and this is where Angie pigs out and Sunny only nibbles.

All four have their own bowls and feeding spots. Skitz would scoff the lot if they didn´t. Fleabi likes to scoop her dry food out and eat it off the floor. But not always, just sometimes. Everyones else eats from their bowls. They share water bowls.

I have more problems with them sharing kitty trays. Queenie can´t go if Molly is watching, Fleabi doesn´t like to go if anyone spots her (even me), Skitz doesn´t care, and Molly likes me to "take" him and stay with him while he goes.

The things we do?!

25.January 2008 10:53

That is funny you would say Fleabi likes to scoop her dry food out and eat it from the floor. Ftse does exactly the same but only in a laying down on his side position. He can do that with those big paws it is then when 28toes are handy.
Missie will never drink out of any bowl she will always put her paw in and then lick her paw. (Why?) Maine coons loves water so they share a big dog bowl which have to be filled twice a day with water. Not that they drinking all the water they are playing in the water.
Ftse does´nt share he steals from any plate or bowl, he just cant wait for the others to finish he just dig in and steal.
Mia is very content and will always ask me does´nt matter how many bowls there are.
Kylie on the other hand will not eat anything unless she has seen my put it in the bowl. (WHY)
Millburn does´nt really care if it is in the bowl or on the floor he is just glad to have it.
Meowfy behave like a pig that it why he looks like a pig. He will run for the food, crawl under the maine coons legs in to afraid that he might nog get any. These 4 legged children why they do all these things, guess we will never know.

Mugger still isn´t sure the food is only for him. He waits by his food bowls, I fill them, and then I have to pet him and tell him it´s okay for him to eat. Then I have to leave the kitchen - he won´t eat as long as I´m there, like he´s waiting for the Head of The Pecking Order to feed first. (As if I´d eat that stuff!)

I guess I´m lucky because my kitties do share water bowls and food bowls. It´s so cute to watch Zeus and Tigger eating out of the bowl at the same time. They have never fought over food. But, the boys will not let Princess eat with them...she has to wait.vOf course, they don´t realize that I have already placed a separate bowl on the counter top for Princess so that she doesn´t have to wait for them to give her their left overs.

Tigger occasionally tosses his food on the floor but they generally eat directly from the bowl without making too much of a mess.

I have three water fountains placed around the house, and they all share.

They also share litter boxes even though I have 3 different boxes.

So....I guess I can say that I´m very fortunate indeed.

I am reading the story of Mugger waiting for you to give permission to go ahead and eat. My one friends cat does exactly the same. She must also tell it is okay you can eat. Ftse does wait he diggs in the same time when the bowl touches the ground. Missie will follow the bowl around. From the table top to the fridge from the fridge to the sink from the sink to the floor. Millburn is the lazy one he wait quitely and as soon as the bowl is on the floor then he will dig in.

They share a dry food bowl and water bowl but have their own seperate wet food dishes. I collect fiestaware and they have their own fiesta cat bowls. Mr tries to bully lou because mr eats very fast and lou very slow and then mr tries to take over lous bowl. I have to watch them.

all my cats (4) have there own food and water dishes because they all have different dietary needs

Dorothy..how do you manage it when your kitties have different dietary needs? Mine all share, so if one needs a special food....all of them are into the dish.

we have a double bowl that my 2 cats used 2 share. But there was no real picking orer. Except that the cats always get fed b4 us. Mish has a really strange habbit though when it comes 2 water. We keep 1 small plastic bowl inside and we have 1 outside 2. She won´t drink from the one inside 4 some strange reason. only from the 1 outside. and only if it is in the same place.

When Naffer lived here she wouldn´t drink from the inside bowl either NNNOOOOO she´d rather drink the pool water (chlorine) i can´t imagine anything more disgusting. Well, maybe i can, but thats not part of the story.

when Mish has meet she will eat all the smaller chunks straight from the bowl and drag one big chunk into the middle of the walkway 2 eat. ut only kanga meat not fish.
?????
my sis really does have some strange habbits!!!!!!

30.January 2008 16:33

Beau is an only cat so there´s no pecking order with other cats. However, if there´s something of mine he wants I have to first offer him a bite of it, or at least let him check it, before I can eat in peace.

Troub, Shadow and Conner each have their own bowls but Troub and Conner wander off and Shadow finishes his, then the other two. Troub and Conner usually come back later and look puzzled.

awww that is soo sweet. Merlin too misses out but thems the breaks!!!
