hello! anyone wants to talk about this? i don"t blame ya...

17.January 2008 23:45

Do you mean gourmet food for cats? I´ve heard of people who won´t buy cat food - instead, they find appropriate food for cats (like fish heads and such) and then cook it for them.

17.January 2008 23:47

is it okay to cook fish head for your cat. i never try it....

17.January 2008 23:49

I haven´t either, but I´ve heard it´s okay if you remove any bones that are in it. I just don´t think I could do it - too gross!

18.January 2008 00:55

I refuse to give any of my cats fish anything. I cannot stand the smell of the food, the cat breath and the cat poo. It´s bad enough I have to give Queenie cod liver oil, I use plastic gloves so my hands don´t smell. Thankfully it´s a small enough amount that she doesn´t smell of the fish.

18.January 2008 14:47

I really don´t have the time of the stomach to do that either.... Besides that it would make the chore of cleaning the litter box even more unpleasant....

I don´t know if it´s the commercial for this food (it could be ´Sheba´ or any other "luxurious" kind of cat food) but there´s something wrong with it.

Picture this: a barefoot woman in silky clothing in a dimly lit living room containing lots of pillows lights some candles and opens the pièce de resistance (a tin or container of cat food).
Then she places the food delicately on a silver or bone china plate (wasn´t there a sprig of something as well? Mint?), and Snookums (whiter than white) starts eating, violins in the background (but I could be wrong here.)

Feng shui cat style!
Do we do it like that, ladies? Gents?

18.January 2008 18:41

im with you I think ´get a life lady´ - ours get fed whats going they occasionally have a treat but only if its around anyway - lifes tough - they can always catch their own!

18.January 2008 23:40

i just about get beat up, knocked out and tripped when i go to feed the cats....no way in h*** am i going to take the time to bust out the good china and sprigs of mint or parsley for them!

they wouldn´t appreciate it anyway

i got my first blowout this mornin for being late with her breakfast.

22.January 2008 17:10

I always give my cats treats every now and then. For Christmas breakfast they had 3 large tiger prawns each and for dinner they had ham off the bone and bbq chicken.

I also give my cats treats, they get chicken and fish no red meat (as I dont eat red meat). They get everynight when we eat they get the treats. In fact I give them everything I eat. Ftse loves pumpkin so I let him have it. If it is good for me and they want to eat it, why not?

24.January 2008 11:02

Mugger mostly does not get treats. He´s big enough as it is, so I try to limit what he eats. However, if I have something extremely yummy, I do give him a little bit... mostly so he´ll stop pestering me for it.

24.January 2008 14:04

I give my kitties treats a couple time a week. But I give them the store bought treats that prevent hairballs. They love them, and it helps them stay healthy and happy, so more power to it. They only get people food once in a great great while.

24.January 2008 18:47

My kitties do eat Fancy Feast food and Sheba. But, I like to find natural foods for them as well. The pre-made cat food is supposed to contain the vitamins and taurine that our kitties need in their diets.

I also cook fresh fish for them occasionally (usually white fish) and give them baby food (meat, chicken, turkey, lamb) that has no additives.

I also buy special kitty milk for them. One of them likes it the others do not. They would rather have the milk from my cereal..which I don´t like to give them.

I do give them fresh chicken that is cooked occasionally but try not to give them table food. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this.

I´m guilty, I buy frozen coley for my 5 cats and cook it each day fresh, even though I work ful time. The first thing I have to do is drop my bags in the hall and cook the fish, this involves a mother and son fight on the kitchen mat (why????) until the fish is cooked and once cooked and being placed into bowls involves much screaming and yelling (so much so that I was on the phone, dealing with a work problem and my colleague asked what the noise was I told him I was feeding the cats and it would all quieten down once they got their food. Very quietly he said "we have a cat, but it doesn´t make that noise"). Sure enough once the bowls reached the floor, there was peace and the next day my colleague comments on how quiet our phone call was . Once the fish meal is over, I can then go about feeding ourselves and doing normal things, but how could I disappoint them? We even cook ahead when gong away and leave portions in the freezer for our cat sitter. My husband declares that the cats get better food than we do. And yes... for the rest of the day they eat expensive dry food and special flavoured tins of normal cat food. But it´s because I love them. Shame on me. Sunita even comes to see what we are eating and if it´s nice, she gets a small plate too!

gourmet food maybe a sensitive subject to some of us. as we ALL think rightfully our cats deserve the best. while this is true.

it does not necessarily mean its correct for the cat.

gourmet foods basically means they put something extra in it. like a better packaging, quality ingredients etc...

it maybe true but its a luxury.

any pet needs Variety.

different food from different food groups. because not all them surely provide all the nutrients.

so varying feeding is the best approach from my experience and observation.
avoid of course foods that are known allergen to your cat.

but try giving several kinds of food rather than just one gourmet.

gourment should be reserved during special occassions.

I too get knocked down and almost tripped at feeding time. and if Im late....they line up in the kitchen and stare at me. I get tired of seeing them so I feed them because they will go to sleep afterwards. no bone china for them!

29.February 2008 06:05

gourment food is good for your cats every now and then...i give it to them

29.February 2008 07:55

I feed my cats both cat food (mostly that which does not contain colouring and other aditives - as they both suffer from alergies) and twice a week as a treat I will cook them prozen coley. They also love to dring the water that it was cooked in. And I spoil them with treats (no wonder Vali is so fat!).

Gourmet Diamant is not more expensive than Sheba, Hill´s…. It is a dish cooked with a small trick moreover. In any case, my cats (especially Cacoune and Romeo, delicate gourmets) are infatuated with that. Why refuse this small pleasure to them ? It is the same thing for us, a good bottle from time to time, that given pleasure.
