So, my cat Gianfico doesn´t like to eat any kind of fish. He even eats corn, but fish, NEVER!
I heard only once for a cat that doesn´t eat fish - my neighbours´ cat; but he´s Siamese cat, and those kind of cats are very particular, but I my Gianfe is an orange (ginger) cat, he shouldn´t be like that lol

All cats have different tastes, mine all prefer different things Pebbles would only ever eat biscuits, no fresh food of any kind ever! Shadow doesn´t like chicken but loves Veal, Jackson my ginger boy only like certain types of fish but will eat any meat. Misty and Little Miss Boots both love cheese but the boys don´t.

So lonelySTARSHINE just find what Gianfico does like and don´t worry

Thats normal - not all cats have to like fish. Snorri hated it and when he ate something of it he would get diarrhea - while Rangoon grew up eating fish and likes it. Snorri liked only shrimp and raw meat while Rangoon never touches any meat.

I read somewhere that fish aren´t a natural source of food for most cats anyway. If you think about it, most cats don´t like water - where are they going to get fish from? Birds and rodents make up most of the diet of modern feral housecats, and small game is what feeds the larger cats. So it´s probably not surprising that cats don´t necessarily always like fish.

While I was living in Geneva, one of my neighbor´s cats used to walk almost every day (in season) to the Rhone. Sometimes he came back with a fish in his mouth. The owner believed the cat caught the fish himself but I´m sure the people sitting there and fishing gave their small fish to the cat for a joke. Funny thing, the cat always brought them home and deposited on the bed - could be because he really didn´t like to it raw fish? Once, he brought home a snake and put it in the bed, too.

Mimmi doesn´t like any kind of fish. She eats pretty much everything from chicken to Chinese noodles. Like the others have said just experiment with flavors, see what he likes and dislikes.

ok guys, thanx for telling me all that

I think that all cats like fish is a bit of a misconception - most of my cats actually haven´t liked fish and they´ve preferred fresh meat and things like that

Viz will not eat fresh fish or meat - this gave me a headache at first. But then I discovered he only eats dried food, so the fish and meat are incorporated into his diet that way. Perhaps you could try this option to see if your cat will take fish this way.

Tiggy won´t eat any fresh food, fish or otherwise and is very fussy. Having said that, if I get a bag of chips it takes all my effort to stop him trying to steal one!

Baby loves any kind of meat exept for fish. Whether it be pork, beef chicken, or turkey, she loves it, even with hot sauce (don´t ask me why that is....), whereas Shadow doesn´t even reconize soft food as being food. The only thing he knows is safe to eat is hard food or treats, and he won´t take anything from your hand, it has to be on the floor.

For some reason Tegan doesn´t like wet tinned food. It sits there on the floor, mouldering...lol. She will eat table scraps and plain mince or other types of meat...and LOVES kibble...but not wet food.

Every other cat I have known will leave the cat biccies but wolf the tinned food down...go figure!

Sunny and Angie enjoy any white fish, canned tuna and a couple of fish canned cat foods. But they won´t touch any shellfish (even lobster!!) nor salmon.

Relief to know that there are cats that do not like fish
I thought Bibi is kind a weird cat (my mistake) that never like eating fish or meat.

Since kitten, never feed her with any kind of fish or fresh meat with a reason to control the pooh odour. Bibi is absolutely a resident cat that doesn´t walk outside.

After felt guilty of changing her nature appetite, now starting giving her tuna canned food once a month as monthly treat. But really take times to get her eat it

I heard that cats used to be fed fish because it was cheap. So it was a case of eat this or nothing. Of course now we have catfood and fish is expensive and cats can say ´no´ to food ... so lots of them won´t eat fish. It may be the bones or the texture because a lot of cats like tinned tuna which is possibly more like chicken? Kimmy looks horrified when I give her fish. I hate to generalise because cats are so different as shown by ebigum!! But a lot of cats love chicken. You´ll get there in the end.

My two love tuna, but not salmon. Hubby put some salmon in their food dish, thinking it would be a treat for them, and they snubbed their noses at it.

25.August 2008 23:30

Betsey likes salmon..but only occasionally..her favorite food is chicken..it seems that my cat has a pallet for what she likes and doesn´t like..

My cats are pretty fussy too, I once bought them some salmon and tuna and they wouldnt touch it, but what MichyD said about them not being able to catch them so therefore not really a natural food source makes a lot of sense.
Although Shakes does love to lick water from the fish tanks

Hey, I used to think, that Nokia is the only cat in the whole world, who is so fussy and doesn´t like fish! Good to know, that it´s common
