Hi,I make my husbands sandwhiches for lunch everyday...And every day I have a cat or two jump up onto the bench and start licking the margarine.No matter how quite I am,they still know,It can be quite an effort to get the sandwhiches done..Any one else´s cats like marg...

We don´t use margarine but Oliver loves butter, or anything with butter, cooked with butter etc. and just as passionate about it.. Also whipped cream too, the same... he demands his share and don´t go away quietly until he gets it!!

Oh yeah, cats love marg and butter. I have never known a cat who didn´t. Maybe it provides lubrication for fur balls??? Who knows maybe they just like the taste.

Absolutely, all 3 of my furry kids love margarine.
Phoenix is the worst he actually picks up the lid in his mouth and runs away with it until he gets caught, cheeky boy!!!!!
My Mum used to put margarine on my cats paws when I was a kid when we moved house, they would be so interested in licking it off for hours, it would really help in settling them into their new homes.

Furrypaws you are absolutely right!! I read about home made remedies for hairballs and one of them was giving them margarine our butter.

Not only does it provide lubrication, but it contains fat (unless it´s a fat free brand), and cats can smell and taste the fat in it.

Yes tegan likes butter (I don´t buy marg) but also likes EGGS! I dropped one whilst making a cake and she lapped it up double quick time!

I pack my hubby sandwiches for his lunch and sometimes he doesnt eat them all, so I throw what´s left on the driveway for my birds to eat. If Lucky Brooke is out there and sees me do this, she´s over on the driveway like a flash and scoffs it all up! I have to really watch her now, or she´ll put on the weight again. I do think it´s the butter they like because if I just put dry bread out, she won´t eat it!

you know its funny because i was just making a sandwich myself and Oscar jumped up and started licking the margarine from the tub. He has never done this. I think he is in tune with all you other Marg licking putty tats!

PS. I was horrified and have now had to get a new tub of Marg out of the freezer!

Mish has never eaten butter, but It might have something 2 do with its dairy origins cause Mish is totally ADDICTED 2 milk and chees. She just can´t get enough of the stuff.

Now KatKrazy, I would have cut the bit out he was licking and kept using the same tub! Why waste it!

There´s an "old wives" piece of folklore which says if you get a new kitten, dip their paws in butter. They will lick it off and start to groom and immediately feel at home and adjusted. I´ve never done this, but I´ve heard the tale.

(PS I used to be like KatKrazy and would not eat after my cat, but now I´m old and cranky and eat after my cat regularly. She´s allowed to taste anything on my plate or drink from my glass. I haven´t gotten sick yet!)

Well not that I actively eat after Oliver (though I regularly use my hands to eat my food directly after they get licked by him...) but I would much rather eat after him than the vast majority of humans if I had to

Viz is too posh to get messy with margarine. He only eats dry food and sticks his nose up at anything else lol.

All three of my cats just love margerine. After I´ve had my toast every morning, I have to put my plate down for them to lick off every last smear of margerine (and the crumbs). They are so excited, you´d think it was a seriously huge treat I was giving them. I give them just the tiniest smear, because both the girls are on the "porky" side. If I am foolish enough to leave my toast unattended after I´ve buttered it, Thandi will find it and lick it clean in record time. I´m more than a bit squemish about eating after my cats, so I just hope that I´ve caught her red-handed every time. Otherwise, I´m so absent minded that I would probably just think I hadn´t buttered it yet and re-butter and eat it!!

Gelly (Angelica) loves margarine. She can´t wait to lick my toast. I don´t allow her but every so often she gets a lick in. She is quick.

I don´t buy margarine but Barney loves butter, cheese, yogurt and cream ~ one of his favourite things is for me to hold the foil tops from a new yogurt carton while he licks all the yogurt off it. He loves the butter off my toast too and if he gets a bit of honey or jam with it he likes that too. It´s no wonder I always have sticky fingers at breakfast time. He likes fingers dipped in coffee too!
