Hello, I´m an owner of a Siamese cat called Katty. My problem is that she will not eat anything but canned food, I know this is my fault since I don´t have much time in the morning to feed her. Now I can see those canned food aren´t so "healthy" for her but now she refuses to eat anything but canned food specially tuna food. Do you have any advices in order to change her food habits? She´s 3 years old. Another problem that I have is that she won´t eat if there´s nobody near her at night (in the daytime she´s not got any problems) so she always try to wake me up to get her some company. Of course I don´t go to the kitchen to make her company and this makes her to keep on calling (meow, meow and more meow) besides my bed! Any good advice for these behaviour problems?

Try to search in the internet shops- I am sure that you will find canned food which has all the vitamins etc. which cat needs.
Or how about feeding your cat with meat? I know a lot of people who give their cats only boiled or raw meat and the cats are healthy...

And concerning eating habit- I think your cat must eat so it will take only few days to realise how hungry she is and that she must eat with or without you

I agree if she is hungrey enough she´ll eat what you put out.

Mrs jinx is the same, especially eating by herself at night and so far every day this week I have had to get up at 5.00am to sit with her whilst she eats her breakfast.
I give her good dry food which I know she gets her nutrients from this and then I feed her meat in between so that she doesn´t tire of it. My vet thinks that it is just fussyness and that basically as long as the humans pander to it the cat will carry on. I think that if we left them then they would eventually get hungry enough to eat the things we leave but I wouldn´t like to do this so I just vary the food as much as I can - i find that it is more boredom of having the same thing to eat all the time that puts Mrs Jinx off.

Siamese cats are known to be very vocal but you know this already! Im not sure why you are worried about her food - if she is healthy and her teeth are ok why stress yourself. I would be more worried if she was off her food. Our cats love those hard treats you can always make a game of throw and eat to encourage her to crunch on something different - just a thought

Thanks very much for your advices. Yes, my Katty is a very healthy cat but the problem is that sometimes it gets hard to feed her since she won´t eat just tuna meals. Maybe this could be a problem when she will get older and not now that she´s still young. Mrs Jinx likes to vary and that´s ok, mine´s don´t. I´ve tried to give her differents things to vary but no way. I´m worried about this but the vet says that when she will get tired of tuna meals she will ask for something else...that was 6 months ago!

Try mixing some good quality dried food into her wet tuna food, dried food helps remove plaque & tartar of their teeth.
I have seen quite a few siamese end up with extremly bad teeth decay and rot, one her name was Kayla didn´t eat dried food much and her teeth ended up being infected, but the time the vet pulled them out it was too late the poisoning from the rotten teeth and gums had gone through her system and she had to get put down (she was aged 9 only).
Royal Canin makes a great dried food especially for Siamese cats called ´Siamese´, as siamese cats eat differently to most cats.
I hope Katty can learn to eat dried food, it´s so beneficial for her.

Try to give him dry food as well like Eukanuba, Iams and Hills because canned foods are very fattening although they are still good for the cat if he eats wet food twice a week. Animals are like humans, our body needs fat as well. Excessive fat is what makes us unhealthy. So in other words, do not cut canned food completely and try to include a bit of dry food. Likewise, dry food only is also unhealthy for the cat because it makes them dehydrated and may develop major problems in their liver. Hope this helps, good luck

Royal Canin has a special formula for Oriental cats. Apparently Siamese and Burmese and other orientals tend to wulf their food down too fast, so the kibbles are large. It helped Connor, who is not pureblood, but looks and acts Burmese. I would try adding these kibbles to Katty´s diet.

I had the same problem with Romeo. He “tested” several food. He threw his choice on (sorry for free publicity) :
- croquettes special Maine Coon Royal Canin (exist to for Siamese)
- croquettes Almo nature kitten (because he must still receive a food for kitten until the 3 years age)
- Pro Plan (specialy kitten al pollo con carni attentamente selezionate !)
- Almo nature (salmon, salmon/carrot, chicken leg…)
- and the gold palm : Gourmet Diamant (chicken, salmon, tuna with sea-bream) !!!
All dependent on your budget cat, but with the last choice of Romi : no problem. Now, I am not obliged any more to cherish him without stop to eat. The only thing that I still do, I give him the impression choose his food. I present the box to him, he rubs, meows, hums : it´s good, he will eat it.
What we would not do for our cat !!!

Try to mix those canned food with fresh meat or biscuit, then slowly change his appetize. Or try to observe why he like those can food so much. Like my cat yaoyao, he will only eat those chicken or biscuit if it is with some soup or milk, he don´t like dry food.
hope this will help
