Found A Cat

This is a bit of a long shot I suppose but I wonder if anyone knows of, or is missing a cat In Aberdeen, Scotland. (Middlefield area)
We found an absolutely beautiful long haired grey cat sitting on our wheelie bin, in a really poor condition. She´s very very thin and her coat is really badly matted. It doesn´t look like she´s been in a home for quite some time so I wonder if she´s got lost.

We´re contacting The cat protection league, PDSA and the local shelter to let them know we have her, but we´re hoping to keep a hold of her until we can hopefuly reunite her with her owner.

Anyone have any other ideas what we can do to trace her owner and any tips on potential introductions with Frodo if she ends up staying for more than a few days.

Here she is after some much needed food.

The CPL have asked us to keep her for now, much to Frodo´s disgust because they have no foster homes available. We´re taking her to the vet Monday for a check up and to scan for a microchip. Maybe we´ll be lucky and find an owner, although I certainly wouldn´t mind keeping her if we can´t. I´m not sure if Frodo will accept her though so we´ll just have to wait and see.

Anyone have any idea for a name. Even if she doesn´t stay with us for long, I can´t just call her no name lol

Her name is Fluffy. I´m sure she´s mine. I lost a cat just like her yesterday......
Please send her to Sydney, Australia, immediately.

D&M.

She looks so sweet and adorable, probably a bit traumatised through being lost poor thing. She is lucky to have found the right people to take care of her

21.June 2008 22:08

She looks lovely. Hope you find the owner soon.

Thanks everyone, we decided to call her Arwyn for now (to carry on the LOTR theme) although I´m trying not to get attatched as I´d love to reunite her with her family if possible. We´ve put her details up on the local cat shelter website and left her descripton with the local pet shop and SSPCA. There´s no reports of a missing cat matching her description though.

I hope she´s been missing for a while, because if not, her owners really haven´t been taking care of her because she´s in such an awful state. I don´t think I´ve ever seen a cat so skinny!

MatildaandDot, no wonder she´s so thin if she made it all the way here from Australia lol

She could have come from australia in a container

Have you put up posters in the streets?

22.June 2008 00:24

Hi OldWoman.

My Husband´s currently beating up the printer in an attempt to get it to work so we can do some posters. Hopefully we´ll get them made up and put out tomorrow morning. PAWSS just got in touch and said she´ll be added to their website and to try the cat and dog home in the far side of Aberdeen as well, just in case someone´s reported her missing to them. The CPL and SSPCA have her description too.

I´m going to ring around all the local vets on Monday morning and leave a description with them too. I can´t really think of anything else to try now, apart from scanning for a microchip on Monday when we get her checked at the vets.

Lucky little Arwyn to have found such loving people to look out for her! That is a lovely name by the way. I had a little cat show up at my door once I called Little Orphan Annie. She went to a loving home (and kept her name - Annie is a spoiled little princess now). If Arwyn ends up staying with you (and it just seems fated somehow), try a gradual introduction technique with Frodo to minimize discomfort. You´re probably keeping her sequestered away from him for now anyway That´s wise for several reasons - in case she hasn´t had shots and has something communicable you don´t want Frodo exposed to, because you don´t want to cause her (or him) any additional stress, to keep them from fighting and hurting each other, and because it will make finally introducing them much more pleasant. Once Frodo gets used to her presence and her scent through a closed door, intros will be much easier. I posted some info in another link in March. Have a look at this thread:

Good luck and let us know if she´s found her home (with you, hopefully)!

Thanks for that MichyD.

We´re keeping her shut in the spare bedroom for now, mostly to stop her being stressed by Frodo and the dog, but also because I want to make sure she has nothing infectious that could harm Frodo before I introduce them.

The Cat Protectoin League phoned a few minutes ago and said they´re coming to collect her on Monday to take her to the vets. I had said I would do it, but they prefer to do that themselves and cover all costs while she´s still officially a stray. Provided all is well and they find no microchip they´re bringing her back to us with food and cat litter to last us until a decision is made for her future or an owner is found.

I have a feeling she´s here to stay if no owner claims her.

You will be heartbroken, if an owner is found

Hi there, I have a feeling Arywn has found her way to the people destined to love and care for her. If she had owners, they haven´t been in her life for a while (and can´t have been trying to hard to find her). If that´s the case, and CPL does find them, maybe they´ll be willing to part with her anyway. We have our fingers and paws crossed for you - we´ll all be waiting to know what happens!

im hoping shes yours to keep daftdog! at least she will have a good home with ppl that truley love her!.
p.s Anyone want a tortie kitten called raanii, shes driving me CRAZY with her mad games of running around the house, Climbing the curtians and scratching up the lounge!!! (now shes chewing my foot and doing backflips when i move it!

I think she more found you, I believe cats can sense loving cat people and where they want to live and she want´s to live with you!

22.June 2008 11:26

What a gorgeous cat!! I hope she´s managed to charm her way into a new, loving home with people who will make sure she´s safe.

Hi everyone and thanks for your messages.
Arwyn had a good night and is coming around a bit this morning and will let me stroke her, although she still prefers to be left alone for the most part. We´ll just take things at her pace and let her come to us when she´s ready. I spend a lot of time just lying on the bed and getting her used to being around me.

I managed to get a better look at her while she slept last night and she appears to have an injury to her mouth, Sadly I think she may have been kicked which would explain why she attacks my feet quite aggresively if I walk too close. She´s managing to eat and drink though and it doesn´t appear to be bothering her, so the CPL think she´ll be ok to wait till tomorrow to see the vet. I´m still very shocked at how thin she is, when you stroke her it´s just like stroking a skeleton! Other than that, her coat is in a terrible condition and will probably have to be shaved.

If this is down to neglect and not a cat who´s managed to get herself lost for quite some time, I´d like 5 minutes with her previous owner!

22.June 2008 16:09

Oh, poor kitty. Some people are just awful.

My Sidney was badly kicked by his first owner and we did have a major row, the upshot of which was, that Sid now lives with me. It had made him aggressive and he did attack my shins a couple of times. But with time and kindness he in now more trusting and friendly.

Hope your kitty is better soon.

22.June 2008 17:48

Poor little Arwyn, she looks so sweet - its so sad that she has not only been lost or badly neglected but kicked as well, poor baby That is so good she is going to see the vet soon. You are taking such good care of her.

you may send raanii to me in the philippines. my curtains, window screens and furniture are all scratched out so she won´t be able to do any more damage here.

i think arwyn is there to stay daftdog. congratulations on your new cat, she looks lovely.

23.June 2008 05:43

Arwyn just sat and cuddled up to me for ages and let me have a good feel of her and check her over (I still can´t see for certain that she´s definitely female, so she may still have another name change) She´s no longer attacking us whenever we walk into the room and now comes runing for a cuddle instead which is a big change from yesterday and earlier today.
She has a few smaller things we´ll need the vet to check tomorrow, besides the mouth injury and her being so underweight. For one thing there´s a big tick on her head (EEK!) and she´s been sick tonight, I´m hoping that´s just her stomach adjusting to regular food though. We´ve been giving her very small meals several times a day and water mixed with a tiny bit of special cat milk.

I´m getting a little scared now in case they find any underlying problems that can´t be fixed. (or a microchip ) I have tried to keep my distance and not get attatched, but she´s tugging at my heart strings.

I´ll let everyone know more when we hear how she gets on at the vets. I´m not certain we´ll get her back tomorrow because they may want to keep her in for a day or two, depending on what needs to be done.
