Please do not worry, my cats have often eaten bones. It is rare for problems to occur.

It depends upon whether the bones are cooked or not. If they are cooked, they can splinter. Better to be safe than sorry and have Harim checked out in the morning.

Hi, I think it´s nighttime where you are. If Harim is behaving normally, isn´t choking and doesn´t appear to be in pain, it doesn´t sound like an emergency. Check him in the morning and watch him very closely for the next 24-48 hours. You could also call your vet in the morning and ask if they think you should bring him in for an x-ray. If he shows any sign at all of being off colour - vomiting, sitting hunched up, straining or crying in his litterbox, blood in his stool, not eating or drinking - get him to a vet right away. He may have ground up the bone enough that it won´t cause a problem and he´ll pass it through his system. I´ve had cats do the same thing and they were okay. Cooked bone can splinter though (like Katperson says), and cause internal problems so the next 24 -48 hours will require some diligence on your part. And for at least a week after this I´d keep a very close eye on him.

I had a similar experience with a cat that I was feeding that even though he was always present for meal times he would let us touch him. He managed to hold of a chicken bone and got a piece of it stuck in the roof of his mouth. I was in a quandary as to what to do as with my other cats, yes, I would have gotten a few scratches but at least I would have been able to remove it, but how does one remove a bone from a cat that would NOT let us touch him. The only solution was to go to the vet, get a tranquilizer of some sort, get him to take it somehow and then watch him until he dozed off. I proceed to race off to the vet and get the medication which was quite costly I might add, dashed home to administer it...only to find that he had managed to dislodge it himself!! I hope all turns out okay for you.

He´s eating, drinking, playing as if nothing happened. I´m expecting him to poo this evening. and I will observe him closely. Thanks MichyD & capslink --Lecy
