I was just wondering if anyone knew how long to keep an opened cat foor tin in the fridge, because my girls are so fussy they dont like the same type food that they had from brekkie served to them for dinner. so we always have like 2 or 3 cans on the go at the same time.

but im insure how to tell its off as the food kinda stinks anyways, i never have a can in the fridge longer then 4-5 days i think.

i do check to see if it is off like human food but have no idea how to tell, other than human food i know grows green stuff.

Hi,
I personally keep an opened can in the fridge 2 days maximum. Not longer because am always scared bacteria could grow (even if in the fridge)

Yes, I also think 2 days is the limit. I would take the food out of the tin and put it in a glass or ceramic container and cover the surface as tightly as possible with the plastic wrap. The food may take on the nasty smell/taste of a metal if they are left in the tin. In any case my spoiled Oliver doesn´t care for them if it is not freshly out of the tin and at the best of times he would eat very reluctantly (very often he protest!), so I quitted buying larger tins, and completely switched to single serving packages...

I use one can for all 3 for a meal. If a stray comes along I will open a can and store the rest. only for a day or two.

With my Kimmy there are never leftovers! But if they were - 2 days. Less in the heat (even from the fridge it just seems to go off faster). Kimmy gets dried but when she got Whiskas it was from a packet.

Midge only likes the gravy that is in the can so we don´t do cans anymore, too wasteful. I do keep half a dozen cans for emergencies. But in the past I always followed the two day rule also.

Cats usually let you know if food is bad because they won´t eat it. Dogs, on the other hand, will eat anything.
