Want to post here a post I gave to Kittibits.....don´t know if that cat has the same but think it would be beneficial to post my comments here as I was very amazed to learn of this infection that many older cats can get.......
Here is what I posted.......
Ann....ask your vet.........
My Siameesee was just diagnosed with an infection in the stomach and bowels that causes him to not want to eat, wobble on his feet, loose weight, gag like he is choking.....has no fever......(I saw him spit up some clear liquid, and cry out, twice but was just a small amount and the vet says that tells us nothing.......except heaving can indicate this infection probability).......
My vet says that older cats often get this, although it is not known why........
Tests were ran......the white blood cell count was very elevated and his kidney function was begining to show wrong numbers......
My vet gave him an antibiotic shot the first day and pills that I am to give him at home (I am to wrap the pill in butter to ease it going down his throat), along with a vitamin shot (think it has something to do with the B vitamins that I am told will stimulate the cat´s appetite).
The Vet Bill says this:
Dexamthasone injection;
Baytril injection:
Baytril 22.7mg/tab;
Vitamin Injection along with the charges for the testing:
Vetlat GHP-Feline specific;
Vetlab T4;
FelvFiv Combo Snap
My cat was dying.
I thought it was just old age and as the cat is an ouside cat who showed up a couple of years ago, and tested healthy at the time even though he was always thin and seemed very old, I just assumed he was just old......
This treatment for an infection has been a miracle......
Maybe Kittibits has an infection that older cats get.......there is no definitive test to prove a cat has this infection but trying the antibiotic may make all the difference if you haven´t tried one, yet.
Hope this helps and perhaps, it will alert others to something I had never heard of.........

P. S. Need to add.......just remembered something I should have added to my post about the infection.........
I happened to see my cat heave twice after crying out to me (I was sitting next to him, petting him, and trying to see what could be his problem) but only a small bit of clear liquid came up. It seemed so violent but nothing was really there......the vet said that the type of heaving he did.....looking at the liquid........doesn´t tell him much but that this type of heaving can also be an indication of this infection.......they took a chance and started the anibiotics and I am so grateful.....
Should also add that the vet said that the cat´s stomach felt ´loose´.....like something was not normal in the way it felt.....I can´t remember his exact words, I am sorry to say........seem to remember something about ´fluid´....mushy.....he mentioned like if a cat had had ´diahrea´ (not sure of spelling)........
Tries to eat....looses interest.....barely eats anything......sleeps a lot.........He has lost incredible weight......is skin and bones......no fat.....I waited too long.....please discuss possibilities with the vet.......Please......
