Hi Stellaluna. If the hole is wide and shallow, I suppose it could be okay and could heal itself. I don´t mean to second-guess your vet, but the usual problem with cat bites is that they tend to be very narrow and deep punctures. As the tooth sinks in, it pushes bacteria deep into the wound. ( cat´s teeth carry particularly nasty bacteria). The surface heals over very quickly, leaving bacteria and infection building up deep inside the wound - with the result that an abscess is virtually inevitable without antibiotics. I know this because I used to have a small, spayed kitty (Zuls), that thought she was Mike Tyson. I suggest you keep a very close eye on Stellaluna´s wound. I sometimes managed to treat some of Zuls smaller, more accessible wounds successfully without resorting to vets, antibiotics etc, by bathing the wound a couple of time a day in a warm (mild) salt water solution. Whatever you do, don´t use human anticeptics on the wound, as many human anticeptics are very toxic to cats, and of course the cat immediately licks off whatever you put on. Good luck. Hope it does heal itself.
