Oh, dear Steallaluna, Roni and I are going to pray hard for your health. I have never had such experience like yours before and I really can´t help very much but pray and pray and pray. Yet, don´t you have some kind of a vet sos number? Once Roni got sick in the middle of the night, and I found a 24-hour pet SOS-center in my city? Probably you should search for something like that on the net.
Really hope Stellaluna gets better soon,
Roni´s mom

No, I´m not quite sure what you mean, but it doesn´t sound good!

One thing you could do is to find out what happened to Stella to cause this. The more you can tell the vet, the better.

If this is some type of serious wound then you need to make sure she doesn´t get anything inside it. It could get infected. Keep her away from cat litter and the other cats. Put her in a pet carrier, cage, or other small enclosure if you have to.

I would not try to disinfect the wound myself because you will carry her to the vet soon, but if she is bleeding, or if the wound is large enough, if you may need to wrap her with a pressure bandage.

Perhaps her skin has been cut? Like with a claw or from a bite? If there is no emergency vet available, I would try to keep her as calm as possible and also warm. The purring could be a sign of pain. Hope all works out well for you.

Hey there, I´d cover the wound with sterile bandage if you can to keep it clean. And I was thinking the same things as oldwoman. Could it be a wound or an abscess from a claw or bite? Could one of the other cats have done it? You might want to give them all a good look over just in case they had a tussle when you weren´t around. Cats are pretty good at hiding injuries that could become infected (and turn into an abscess). Good luck!

UPDATE: We discover she was bitten by a stray cat, VET said she will get well soon and need no medicine, but I think any bacteria can enter there and make something worse

That is good news. I woud bathe it with warm salt water applied with cotton wool 3x a day. This will help prevent infection.

When I first saw Lou he had a huge hole in his leg too. I cleaned it with peroxide and it closed up very fast. he was only a stray then so I tried to fix it myself before I caught him and took him in. it worked and now you cannot see the place it happened. he has been checked thoroughly since then and he is fine.

Hi Stellaluna. If the hole is wide and shallow, I suppose it could be okay and could heal itself. I don´t mean to second-guess your vet, but the usual problem with cat bites is that they tend to be very narrow and deep punctures. As the tooth sinks in, it pushes bacteria deep into the wound. ( cat´s teeth carry particularly nasty bacteria). The surface heals over very quickly, leaving bacteria and infection building up deep inside the wound - with the result that an abscess is virtually inevitable without antibiotics. I know this because I used to have a small, spayed kitty (Zuls), that thought she was Mike Tyson. I suggest you keep a very close eye on Stellaluna´s wound. I sometimes managed to treat some of Zuls smaller, more accessible wounds successfully without resorting to vets, antibiotics etc, by bathing the wound a couple of time a day in a warm (mild) salt water solution. Whatever you do, don´t use human anticeptics on the wound, as many human anticeptics are very toxic to cats, and of course the cat immediately licks off whatever you put on. Good luck. Hope it does heal itself.

Hey there, how is Stellaluna doing? Just wondering - cat bites can get infected fairly quickly. I´d be tempted to clean it with hydrogen peroxide regularly, whatever the vet has to say. Let us know how it´s looking.

oh man..it sounds so bad... hope stellaluna is better. I was bitten too, but the vet is pretty good at stitching me up. But hate it when they shave off my fur.

Get well soon Stellaluna
