Cloudy eye, no discharge..my boy doesn´t feel good

On Saturday I noticed that one of my cats´ eyes looked different. Later, it was obviously cloudy and he was squinting it most of the time. He began to show signs of discomfort...he laid around lethargically and held his mouth slightly open. Later that day, off and on, he began acting confused or as if something inside his head was bothering him (it was pretty weird). Other than the cloudy eye (which has never produced any discharge) he doesn´t have any physical symptoms. He´s been eating regularly and using the litter box normally. Yesterday morning the eye was still a little cloudly but he seemed fine otherwise. Then, as the day progressed, he slowed down a little and signs of discomfort resumed. This morning, the same. He´s sleeping now, but seems better than yesterday. The eye is still cloudy.

I should mention that this is not the first time this has happened. In fact, around the same time of year last year we went through the exact same thing...and the year before the same. It lasts for a few days and then clears up and he´s great again. I have his sister from the same litter as well and she´s never had this probelm. They are 3 yrs. old.

I´d really appreciate any input or advice!

the picture on the site is very similar to how the eye looked at its worst. that article was helpful, but it seems strange that it could be one of those degenerative-type diseases associated with the eye because it´s something that seems to only affect him a few days out of the year. i thought it might be related to the heat or air (we´re in central california..it´s very hot and very poor air quality)...although he´s strictly an indoor cat.

he´s generally a very healthy, happy guy...this is really the only problem he´s had as an adult. as kittens, both he and his sister were very sick...we rescued them from a bush at about a week old. they were only ever diagnosed with something called "fading kitten syndrome"...and after we nursed them to health they were fine. but still, i wonder if this could somehow be related.

I don´t know, there could be various causes. It really is a job for the vet. I have aslo found this link

It sounds seasonal - could it be allergy related? I think taking him to a vet while his eye remains cloudy is a good idea. Probably more useful than waiting and trying to describe the phenomena. Especially as it sounds as though he isn´t comfortable and your vet can make some treatment recommendations.

sounds like an ulcer. id go to your vet!

so the symptoms lasted 3 or 4 days and then completely cleared up...i´m thinking it must be allergies but i appreciate everyones´ help and i will definately get my little man to the vet next year to find out how to make him more comfortable when it flares up...definately agree with michyd that it´s better to take him when he´s symptomatic rather than try to explain what´s going on.

thanks again.
