Lena just fall over the window, that´s about 5m height, she is bleeding on her nose, but still moving and purring and meowing constantly, now she is on the way to vets, did anybody have similar experience??? I´m so frightened!

15.June 2008 14:53

Oh dear! We´ll all be praying for your Lena, Foxlady! It sounds like she has some internal bleeding, and she may have fractures in one or more of her leg bones, but if the internal bleeding isn´t severe, the vet can probably fix her! Everyone at UC hopes she´ll be alright, and that she´ll make a quick recovery!

yes we will be praying for Lena (you have no idea how spoked I was when I read that since it matches my name...I gotta get over that...) I haven´t had such experience but you know when a cat is purring it can be cause she is in pain too it isn´t just when they´re happy......but I don´t know what to say.... if she got to the vet on time I´m sure she will be fine.... (today is her birthday? this happened on her birthday???? ah man ) but we really hope she will be fine

Hey there, good thoughts coming your way for Lena. Glad you´re on the way to the vet. I´m sure they´ll do a full x-ray and exam and tell you right away what´s what. Hopefully she just bonked her nose a bit and gave herself a scare. Good luck and let us know!

They say cats have 9 lives for a reason. Cats can often pull through some incredible things. Also have heard of cats who survived even more serious fall. If her jaw is not broken, that´s a good sign. That´s one of the most common damages they suffer when they have a fall. Hope there´s nothing serious and she will bounce back soon. Please keep us posted, meanwhile sending warm best wishes to Lena and to you!

Hi, good luck with your kitty, I´ll be thinking of you and hoping for the best. Cats are pretty good at surviving, so hopefully she will make it. Please let us know how she´s doing.

Hope ur Lena is ok..I had the same experience but even worse ;-(

My Bibi fell out from the window of our 4th floor apartment...gheeeeez...scary damn scary!
I cried & cried & cried & cried.... Immediately after the falling, I carried her up and put her in her room since she was showing sign of do not disturb and rather be alone on her bed. Her nose was bleeding but luckily no bone injury. The next morning she looks ok and recovering since her appetites was in good shape. She never meow at all since she was really shocked I guess..
But now after 2 years, she is still my beautiful girl

May ur love and our love to all cats heal her asap

I am very sorry to hear about your kittie´s terrible accident. Hope the vet can do something for her.

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your experience. Today she was at RTG (x-ray), no inner injuries - vets say, but they think that she should have some antibiotics. I disagree with them. They say that her lungs may be weakened, and she´ prone to infections (and pneumonia), and that her intestine maybe touched her liver and transfered some bacteria what also can cause infection. What I think is - THEY ONLY WANT MY MONEY AND REALLY DON´T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT MY CAT! What do you think about it? Is it true? As much as I know, you don´t get antibiotics for prevention... Btw. they were really brutal with my hurt and powerless Lena, that I had to argue with them. I am able to pay for anything she needs, but does she really need it? Will it made for her more damage than benefit? She still doesn´t eat, and moves only if she really need to...

Hi Foxlady. Antibiotics are given as a preventative, both in animals and humans. It is up to you to decide, but if it was my cat I would give her a week/5 day course of antibiotics. Try feeding her Hills soft dietary food that they give after surgery. It is high in nutrients and easel y digestible. My cat had that when hurt.

16.June 2008 21:21

Hi Foxlady, Lena needs the antibiotics to make sure she has all the best chances to get well again. The poor animal is clearly in pain and you should give her all the best care. You are lucky that apparently there are no inner injuries. It could have been much worse. If you don´t trust the vet you can go to another and ask for a second opinion. If Lena is not eating, don´t worry, she can keep this up for a day or two or three. What do you expect? Her face is hurting.

I wish you and Lena all the best.

16.June 2008 21:37

Yes, Foxlady, Lena does need the antibiotics, and like Marketa said, they do give antibiotics as a preventative to both humans and animals. It IS in her best interest. While she is probably bruised and sore, and recovering, her body is in a weakened state and therefore more prone to things. She needs the antibiotics to help her body fight off any possible infection and help heal. You are truly blessed she is overall okay. If she still is not eating in a few days, and not moving more, than I would call the vet and let him know. Thoughts and healing prayers for Lena!

16.June 2008 21:41

Hi Foxylady. Your vet´s reasons for prescribing antibiotics (to prevent a secondary bacterial infection) sound quite logical to me, so unless you really don´t trust your vet at all, I would follow their advice or get a second opinion. As to Lena not wanting to move - when cats are hurt, they lie low until they feel better. Just make sure she has somewhere warm, quiet and comfortable to lie and leave her "lick her wounds" in peace. Keep offering her tempting, easily digested food - but don´t panic if she doesn´t eat for a few days. The important thing is to make sure she doesn´t dehydrate - so make sure there is water easily available to her at all times. Good luck. By the sounds of things she should feel much better in a few days.

16.June 2008 23:50

Foxlady, I agree with you about your vet. If you have a bad feeling about them I would go with your gut instinct. Antibiotics are not always a good thing. They should be used only when absolutely nessesary. If they are used too frequently an immunity will build up and when they are really needed they will not be effective. The vet experience was probably traumatic for Lena but I´m sure she´s on her way to a speedy recovery. Best Wishes.

17.June 2008 04:27

hi foxlady, the vet may have a point with the antibiotics but if you don´t feel she needs them then don´t give them. I would keep an eye out on her and make sure she has lot of water , food when ever she wants to eat. cats are fast healers but i would not her run around too much or too fast.

19.June 2008 23:55

Lena is fine as much as I can see, still a little bit sad and quiet, but everything else is OK for now. I´m happy that there was no inner bleeding. THANK YOU ALL FOR ADVICES AND KIND WORDS!

my cat felt from my 4th floor apartment.his nose bleed but he still can walk properly.no sign of broken bone if u ask me. his heart beat faster is that normal?i went to the vet.she said that she could not feel my cat bladder.it really worries me..she said that the bladder might already burst and toxic are flowing into my cat body in he could die in 24 hours time..have anyone heard anything from their vet about matters like this?

27.July 2008 22:03

Broxniesmuffin, I´m so sorry for you cat.
Your veterinary surgeon cannot it consider an emergency operation ?
I hope a happy end.

Browniesmuffin, I´m so sorry - this must be very stressful for you. His heart would be beating faster - he´s just had a big scare. If his heartbeat doesn´t slow down, watch him very closely for signs of shock. Keep him quiet, contained, warm and watch him like a hawk. If he does have internal injuries, he´ll go into shock and you should be able to see the signs. If he appears to be going into shock, get him into emergency care immediately. I copied this from a website on feline first aid: http://www.petshealth.com/dr_library/felinefirstaid.html

"Shock can follow several hours after a trauma - such as a road accident, fall, electrocution, or any injury that causes internal or external bleeding. During shock, the cat’s circulatory system collapses, causing blood pressure to drop. The typical signs of shock are increased heart rate (over 200 beats per minute), rapid shallow breathing, cold extremities, and pale mucous membranes (rather than pink membranes). Check the cat’s gums for telltale paleness. A fast, feeble pulse is also an indication of a shock-related circulatory problem. Check for increased heart rate by cupping your hand around your cat’s chest just behind its elbow. The heart rate of an unstressed, healthy cat is around 120-150 beats per minute.

Shock is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate emergency treatment. On the way to the hospital with a cat in shock, keep the cat warm and lower its head slightly to help keep the blood flowing to the brain."

Good luck and let us know how he is.
