She has been acting wierd lately....she threw up 3 times today but seems more playful then usual What comes up is her food and a yellowish greenish clearish liquid like bile I guesss She is still eating and drinking fine but throwing up. Also she hasn´t let me smooth/kiss her belly. I´m kinda worried and gonna see how she is tonight and if the same gonna take her to the vet any advice/experience?

I had a similar problem with Cleo a few months ago. Throwing up continuously although she wouldn´t even drink water. I´m glad i took her to the vet the next morning as he told me that cats dehyrdrate very quickly and she needed to go a drip to rehydrate and have antibiotics through the IV drip to stop the vomiting. She was a different cat by the end of the day. I always say err on the side of caution and as it is the weekend coming up i´d at least ring the vet to get their advice. Good luck and i hope Missy is okay

Is your cat allergic at all?....My Deelee has been throwing up the last two days in the same manner you describe.....other than that he is acting normal........and i know it means he is having allergy problems. I saw tonight a small ´wound´ on his forehead which tells me he is starting to scratch and I need to take him for his allergy shot (steroid type). Once he has the shot, he is okay for anywhere from one to 3 months before he needs another shot. The throwing up is always the first sign of trouble with him in regards to allergies.

That´s interesting Songbird. My Lillie gets a skin allergy once a year and has to have a cortisone injection. The vet isn´t sure what causes it and we ruled out diet as we tested that thoroughly. However she doesn´t throw up when she gets it. Do you know what causes Deelee´s?

maobrien.......No, I don´t know exactly what causes Deelee´s allergies. His vet says it could be a combination of things (some airborne) probably as it seems worse in the summer months and he goes outside and in but in the summer is out more than in due to his wishes.....ha!......(he´ll spray if I don´t co-operate...charming....not!....as you can see, he rules!).

In our valley, there is a lot of pollution, so I suspect the air, as I wash his bedding in soap that has no additives or perfumes. I do know, however, that if I feed him Fancy Feast, I can expect him to break out in an allergy problem, but if I keep him on a diet of Iams, he shows no particular reaction at any time of the year, so I suspect the environment.

Our area is an agricultural area and then, in California, one can throw in pollens from trees, weeds, flowers, etc., the list is endless, I think from what I see on TV......and our valley traps the worst air imaginable....you should see the color as one flies into CA from Arizona, for example. No one has any idea how bad it is unless they fly through the color change (my husband is a pilot and we fly into it as we descend....yuck!!!).

Once a vet said about my allergic dog that an animal may be allergic to this or that but until the proportions of the allergens reach a critical amount in the animal, one won´t see a problem in the pet. Given enough of a combination, the animal´s immune system is overwhelmed and we see the results on his body. He said that it is impossible to be sure which combination of irritants is the problem and one just does one´s best to eliminate any irritants that one suspects.

In Deelee´s case I can´t do a thing about the air and considering that I have developed allergies over the last two years and can only keep it under control by taking Loratadin, I am not surprised that Deelee is a mess, too. The San Joaquin Valley air is really bad in California and a lot of people are developing allergies.

Yes, we can only put Lillie´s skin allergy down to something outside as it always seems to happen around mid year. Thankfully only once a year and the cortisone clears it up quickly but then i have been told that too many cortisone injections can this a cat´s skin although once a year is okay. We moved from the hills closer to the sea last year so are hoping that this will get rid of the problem and she is also an inside cat now although her enclosure goes out into the front garden. Obviously a universal problem!! Thanks for sharing

That was meant to be thin a cat´s skin!!

9.May 2008 09:52

Hmmmm, I am going to ´grill´ my vet a bit more.....the last time I asked if it was bad for Deelee to get these shots, he said, "Cats tolerate them very well" but never mentioned about thinning of the skin. I know that cortozone thins human skin but I was always told that that was if it was applied topically.......Wonder about internal damage?????.......So far, Deelee seems okay but I am ´caught between a rock and a hard place´ as Deelee has no quality of life if I don´t give him the shot every month or so as he is so allergic.

Definitely, thank you for sharing with me.......Joan

I attended an information session specific to skin allergies for cats & dogs run by a vet who specialised in this area as it is a growing problem and as i am aware, worse for dogs. I was given an informative handout so if you want to send me a cat mail with your email address i will scan and email to you. It may give you some more info you can discuss with your vet.

Anyway, am getting off the topic here - how Missy is doing?

I am thinking it was something she ate. She hasn´t thrown up today so far....vet says that if the throwing up coun. then there could be reason for concern She still won´t let me kiss her tummy but I´m hoping that she will be back to normal tommorow or later this weekend Thanks for the comments!
