My Bibi is so adorable smart. Everytimes I want to go for outing or outstation with her, she is voluntarily make herself comfortable in her carrier before I ask Previously I let her freely in my car for long or short distance travel but not anymore after I changed my car seats to full leather

But for 4-5hrs drive in a carrier, I´ll make sure to stop few times and let her out for strecthing. But she doesn´t seem interested to drink or eat though. Maybe too excited looking and hearing new things around.

My late cat Bubu is more funny... I have to standby because for the first 5 minutes car ride he will definitely vomit! poor Bubu..but still love him very much....

I hate putting Kimmy in her carrier. She struggles and goes all stiff andI feel very cruel. All I can do is get it over with as quickly as possible. I wish she didn´t hate it so much as the vet is very nice to her when she gets there.

Both Dear Albert and Little Cecil travel miles and miles with me I never use a carrier but but seat belt harnneses on them and strap them through the seat belts, they pull faces but better save than sorry

Both of mine absolutely HATE traveling. We took Abby to the beach house once and vowed never to do it again—she cried all the way there and all the way back (4 hours or so) and then got so upset she did her business in the back of the car not minutes after we left for home.

These two now stay home except for visits to the vet.

When Mol was little I used to take him with me when I went to visit Mum, 4 hours away. He´d sleep most of the way. I´d keep him on a harness most of the time and he was fine visiting Mum, and Lily.

But when he was about 1yo, he completely drenched Mum´s spare room with wee. And oh boy did that room smell!!! Molly´s visiting days ended then. One thing if he sprayed my house, completely another if he sprays others. It was my fault, because he was an only cat, and completely indoors I hadn´t had him neutered so he started spraying. Grrrrr. I had him neutered the next week, but the spraying stayed.

When we moved from Delaware back to PA it´s a 200 mile drive and Booboo does BAD in the car lol. He gets soooo sick. Tianna is fine, doesn´t like it but she´s fine with the drive. Toma I know when I rbought him home all he did was cry haha.... BUT didn´t get sick

My molly hates the carrier too! Im not sure how she knows when im bout to get it to put her in but she does and she runs and hides under the bed. I try to leave the cat carrier in the loungeroom or something a few days before im planning to take the cats anywhere that way they can get used to it. They will even sleep in them!
Someone I know who had to drive her cats 3 hours got a sedative from a vet that way the cat was asleep almost the whole time and didnt get stressed.

My kitties Tabatha and Tangy have to go with us to every trip out of town for more than a day because they hate when we leave. When we take out the suitcases they are always jumping in. They don´t mind going in their carriers but they put up a struggle at first. They love to come out of their carriers when in the car. They like watching the other cars go by.

Neither of them have ever been sick in the car Alberts first trip when I picked him up in Scotland and he slept all the way home Ahhh bless him!!!

Alex loves to travel with me. When he and I go out for a drive he will sit in the drivers seat beside me. Not in a carrier or on a leash. When we drive for longer periods of time he will occassionally come over into my arm rest and nuzzle me just to make sure im not getting too lonely. He will put his lil paws up on to the dor and peek out the window if we are in a city or there is much new and exciting to see. Other than that he site patiently in his passanger seat until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. He is excelent in hotel lobbys or city parks. He loves to explore new places just like his mommy! He is good in hotel rooms or on the car seats. He never claws or scratches. Just waits and somtimes on overnight dries he curles up in my seat covrs and sleeps for a bit. He is great company with me when im driving! I only have to put his leash on when we are about to go out to stretch out legs. Hes such a good good boy!

Both of my cats hate carriers, when we take them to the vet all we do is put the kitty leash on and wrap them in a blanket.
My cat Angel hates the moving scenery in the car, she hides her face in the blanket and meows softly. Even before the car starts she begins to meow. Both of my cats don´t like change, we usually get someone to watch them at home when we go on vacation.

My 7 cats dont like, only going to Vet. Only 1 cat ´Xiao QingQing´ he very like to follow me to travel (2 - 3 hours) or everywhere(if can). I will let him free at the car. He sit or sleep at car seats. He like a good boy.

Chiki hates when i have to put her in a carrier bag, i usually have to keep her eyes close and then just talk to her until she stops crying. It´s so sad...

4.August 2008 07:20

Never brought mewmew out, but he is always making himself comfortable in those cloth material bags, carrier and stuff, so I guess it wont be a problem to bring him out. He is always curious and happy to go out.

Ramcey hates to travel. He´s carsick, gets diarrhoea and pukes the moment he´s in the car. He also hates the elevator cause he understands that taking the lift means that we are going out by car. In the past,I tried to give him a sleeping pill so that he is relaxed, but he threw it out immediately. I have tried everything! What seems to work better is not feeding him anything for at least 12 hours before travelling, so that he doesn´t have anything solid in his intestine.

Xena on the other hand has no problem travelling.

my girls travel best when they are free to rome the car, bj is happy to be in the carrier or happily sit on the passenger seat next to her daddy whos usually driving. Nemo on the other hand will cry while in the cage and normaly will scare herself that much that she wees, so for us i sit in the back with her cuddled up on my lap, she puts her head under my arm or under my shirt for the first half of the trip she will sometimes bring her head out but needs to be close to me.

they went well in the travel from brisbane to rockhmapton 6hr drive and we were very lucky we didnt lose them as we pulled over to sleep and woke up and the car was very hot, the air con had been left on and killed the car battery, nemo was in her cage and very sleepy and bj was on the dash board panting,so we quickly grabbed them and the mice (our pets) and stood out side with them till things cooled down and the batterey recharged itself, they seemed to do better than i did, i burst into tears at the thought i could of lost them. tigs was deff watching them that day and he must of woke us up.

other than that they have traveled really well nemos good but only when shes with me, which i love cause im needed lol.
i would never fly with them, i just couldnt do it specially with them having to be under in cargo i would fear that they didnt make it on or something happened or they needed me. im one of those im the only one that can care for them type, i know bad hey but i admit i am like that.

This is quite dangerous, don´t you think? What if they wander under your feet and you suddenly need to brake?

11.August 2008 05:01 | changed 11.August 2008 05:02

There are harnesses you can buy for pets to enable you to strap them into a seat belt. The biggest danger with pets (not just big dogs, but even small cats) traveling free in a vehicle is that they become flying missiles if you get into an accident. A ten pound cat hitting you in the head at high speed can be killed as well as inflicting serious injuries on you. Unprotected in a car, a pet can be badly injured even in a minor accident. I know a paramedic who travels around North America lecturing on health and safety and he has spoken about the number of accidents he attended where pets caused injury or died unpleasantly while unrestrained. They might prefer to roam lose, but for their sakes as well as yours it´s probably best to teach your cats to be comfortable in a carrier.

im not the one driving, my husband is, bj sits on the front seat and nemo sits on my lap, its isnt dangerous at all when theres more than 2 people in the car, i would say yes its dangrous if it were just me.

when i said rome i mean not in their carriers, they dont walk or run around the car they sit, so i feel that its safe for them, they are not unprotected in any way what so ever!

11.August 2008 05:23

i have looked around for the harness and here they only have dog ones, and i have had to get a refund on them because they just dont fit. my cats dont travel in a car on a regular basis so i dont think there is a problem, you might have read and missunderstood what i said in the last 2 posts. the cats are quite happy to sit in the cat and not move and they did this when we had to move and travel in a car for 6 hours any other time if its been to the vet, its into the carrier or my arm and just a short 10min drive down the road.

but cause the drive was so long i didnt want them cooped up in a small cage for 6 hours and cause they are cats we were worried that if we took them out of the car they might get away as they hate their leads.

so i think my cats were very safe during the drive and my husband made sure bj was safe at all times as well as nemo on my lap.

sorry i should of worded it much betters so it was easier to understand
