What is the dominate breed among cats? What about on this web site?
What is you favorite breed and do you own one. Taking a poll!

The most dominat breed in the UK I would guess is the domestic short hair, i.e. the mongrel cat. That is also my favourite. I like other cats as well, as long as they a have nice long nose. Don´t like those breeds with short blocked noses and weepy eyes.

The same here. I was also interested in that question and made notes visiting feline exposition during the last two years, comparing it to my memories.
It seems that cats became fashion victims. 20 years ago I was seeing lots of siamese and Persians. Now the most numerous "exposition" pieces are Man Coons and Norwegians.
Some ancient breeds, popular years ago don´t show up any more. Last time I didn´t see any Turkish Angoras at all.

Goodness I am learning tons. Thank you. ^j^

Here´s a link to the 10 most popular breeds in the U.S. in 2006 with a short breed description. It was surprising to see Exotic on the list - there are very few in Canadian cat shows: Most Popular Breeds

IN general I agree with Oldwoman. I prefer long noses and also generally short hair - cause they are easier to keep clean! LOL.

Most of what I see when I´m out and about are alley cats. Your basic melting pot, mix up the gene pool type of kittehs.

I am of agreement with Rangoon.
The cats races are like the Prêt-à-porter.
One year, it is the wild standard cat, the following year will be that of the exotic cat, etc...
This phenomenon of fashion is noted in the shows, the petshops and also in the breeders.

I tend to see more "moggies" than any others - all mine are, I suppose if I have any real preference it tends to be for domestic short hair - but to be honest if I could I´d have all of them

Best cat is the Heinz 57, Alley cat, Stray cat, and the ever grateful Feral cat. I love them all. Purebreds are ok too, but don´t go looking for them.

26.July 2008 08:16

I suppose my favourite cats are the moggies - mixed breed. They are all so different and individual! I have a burmese - I picked this breed do the the confines of being an indoor cat. They are bred for it, and are happy with human company.

I would have loved to be able to rescue a cat, but was advised that there was a real risk that they would not adapt to inddor living - it would be a case of "luck of the draw". I didn´t want to take the risk of giving a cat an environment they would be unhappy in. Unfortunately as I live in an inner city area, it is way too risky to let a cat roam around outside!

In general in Australia, the dominant cats are moggies - mixed breed.

My Kimmy is a domestic shorthair and as far as I am concerned whatever cat you have is the best cat in the universe. Has anyone EVER seen a cat they don´t like? (Ok well on rare occasions I may have seen onoe or two) ... Kimmy´s Mum

Im not sure what kind my kittens are... could someone helP??? I got them from a friend. Also: i think that bella (whom is longhaired) i think that her mother and father are both short haired but she has short haired brothers and sisters too. is that possible?? and Edward is medium haired and he´ll look alot like his long haired father. His mother is short haired. please view the pictures!

I like all cats. All mine are moggies, mix of short and long hair.

I am fascinated by the Main Coones, and the munchkins. I love the rag doll´s and think perantatswitsend´s Merlin is stunning. I love him. Oh I also love the Bengals, they are mischievious. He, he, he told ya I just love them all. I also love Cecil and Albert, I love that they go on holidays and wander all through the country side.

I think it´s safe to say I love them all, and don´t have a breed preference.

Last year here in Finland, this was the top 7

Ragdoll
Norwegian Forest Cat
Sacred Birman
Maine Coon
Cornish Rex
Persian
Oriental Shorthair

ps. I forgot to say that Russian Blue is my favourite

I am pretty sure all in all, moggies (or fancily called "domestic shorthair") will always be the most popular globally, and they are my real favourites too.
My general favourites are the round plush teddy bear type cats, among the pure breeds British Shorthair, Scottish Fold and Chartreux fall into this category.
But at the end of the day, I always find something attractive and special in every kitty that I come across, whatever their appearances may be.

17.August 2008 08:35

My favorite breeds are ragdoll, birman, burmese, russian blue and Savannah.
The only one of these breeds I acually own is burmese my other 3 are domestics!

17.August 2008 08:41

Like most here,i tend to have moggies, they seem to be always tuxedo cats too.i would love a Maine Coon, one day,i find them just gorgeous, and soooo huge!

17.August 2008 09:43

I believe the most dominant breeds in Egypt are the Persian, Siamese and then the normal street cats... My fav breed is Siamese and I would love to have Abyssinian, Russian Blue cats... but they are somehow rare to get hold of in Egypt and also a Ragdoll will be great

17.August 2008 10:36

It seems the most dominant cats in Greece are mixed breeds. I am keen on the mixed breeds because of variety and diversity and I think they have great characters. My second favourite is the siamese. I have one of both of course

I totally agree with Oldwoman!
