Have you noticed that some rescue cats seem to display feelings of gratitude? They seem to be truly thankful that they have been saved from whatever horrible circumstances they were in, and continue to express gratitude for their current loving home.
My cat Jake climbs up on top of me at least every day, blinks his big eyes at me and purrs away as though he´s communicating that he is safe and thankful.

Actually I see a big difference among the cat I bought (Nana) and the other 3 saved from death.
Nana is much more independent, she hates to be carry on the arms and is not that friendly. Sometimes I think it´s my fault, that I didnt pay her as much attention ´cause she wasnt sick or ill when she got home as the others cats.

All of mine are rescue cats so I can´t really tell the difference but they sure are all loving and sweet.

Betsey has eyes only for me. She is most talkative when she is with me. I think Betsey somehow remembers it was me that rescued her... or maybe it is just intuitive on her part to gravitate to me without actually remembering that it was me who rescued her... or maybe I am just a cat person and somehow I know intuitively what Betsey needs in terms of love. Either way, Betsey and I are the best of friends and intuitive or not there is much love between us

Gratitude is perhaps to much - but they behave in a different way than the cats who were pampered from their kittenhood. Maybe because they know that they really are not so independent as cats usually think they are...

My one cat Sooti, he was rescued from a farm, they just left him to go wild, and he was very loving after he stopped biting me! lol.. then we moved in with my boyfriend, and got another cat, and he was not happy about that! like he was angry with me that he had to share me. Until, about 4-5 months ago, he had to have two quite servere operations to help him urinate. And we thought we were going to lose him at one point. Through his ops, he had to sleep on me, and this was not like Mr. Independant. And now, he is fit and healthy and just won´t stop loving me, sleeping on me, and the rest. Its like he is so grateful. I wonder how long he was sick for.. Poor boy.

yes! For awhile Lou was very polite waiting his turn for food, petting and everything. He seemed so grateful. Now he pushes his way into the food bowl and meows loudly when he wants petted. I guess he knows he is home.

Each of mine does think he should be the only cat I rescued.

I didnt rescue Alex as i did Tyson and Gunnar. He just came from a lonely pet shop after his mother was killed. He really didnt have it to bad. But he cried and cried. And i just cant say no to an upset animal. Honestly, He showed me more love and grattitude and loyalty than any of the strays i had ever rescued from horrible cicumstances.

When I fostered Andy I really felt that he was sought me out and was willing to trust me because he was so pleased to be cared for and given affection. I wonder if it has alot to do with stray cats not having much love and attention when they´re on the street and feeling starved for it. So I don´t know if it´s what we would think of as gratitude as much as it is just wanting to be loved and ready to give love in return.

All of my cats have also been rescues, so it´s hard to compare. But we just got a kitten (Rascal) who had been at the pound for 3 weeks, since he was just 8 weeks old. And the instant we picked him up, he purrrrred. Two weeks later, he still purrs every time you pick him up.
Jasmine was adopted from a rescue shelter who had her in a foster home when she was about 11 weeks old, and she is one of the most affectionate kittens I have ever had!
