Thank you for sharing your rescue stories. It´s amazing how resilient and brave our cats can be. Please continue sharing your rescue stories. Despite the struggles, they illustrate hope for survival and learning to trust humans again.

Hi, we were all rescue cats. Mom got Kittibits first, even though she wasn´t looking for a kitten. She thinks he was looking for her.
Kittibits´ story: I was waiting for my mom to come and get me. I kind of remember living with her before I got born this time. I remember her voice telling me to find her and I could come back home. So when she walked into the shelter, and was looking through all the cages, I knew she was looking for me. I reached out and grabbed her finger with my paw and licked it. There was a cage full of my brothers and sisters who looked like me, but she chose me. Then I went back home and sure enough, there was all my stuff from before.
Treat´s story: I was a grown up cat, doing fine on my own till I landed in the shelter. They called me Paws because I kept reaching out begging people to take me home. I knew it would be curtains otherwise. Mom came in looking at a cute fluffy kitten named Trixie. But she had been reading the Midnight Louie mysteries by her friend Carole Nelson Douglas who also told her that adult cats had a hard time getting adopted, especially black ones. She of course was captivated by my rakish charm and adopted me along WITH Trixie, my little shelter sis who was later killed by a coyote. We´re back together now in cat heaven.
Cisco and Pancho: We got adopted together. Mom doesn´t know where we were before the shelter but when she came in to adopt a friend for Kittibits when Treaters disappeared for three weeks, she fell for us both. She told the shelter guy she wished she could take us both and he asked why she didn´t. She said she couldn´t afford the ransom for both of us so he made her a deal she couldn´t refuse and we both got a new home! We were thrilled--Kittibits got used to us and likes us now. Treat was mad about us being there but of course said it was because it took two other black cats to replace him.

Molly was first. He was supposed to be Mum´s cat, but he refused to use they tray or come out from under the bed. So Mum sent him to me. He used the tray immediately and was with me constantly.

Then was Skitz, he was a stray kitten at our local tafe (community college). He was caught by my sister with his two siblings. I tamed them and found good homes for the siblings. I kept Skitz. Best decision I ever made.

Finally Queenie, she was at our local RSPCA shelter. She had been surrendered with a litter of kittens and pregnant with her third. The Mumma cats don´t usually get rehomed, I thought this really sucked and so I decided I would take Queenie. She is so happy now.

Then there was Fleabi (can´t believe I forgot her!) She had adopted a family and they were feeding her. She was living under their house and never went inside or anything. She fell pregnant and the family were going to keep a male kitten and dump her at the tip (rubbish dump). I said NO! I grabbed her one day and took her home. We had the kittens aborted, she was only very early pregnant, and desexed. Originally Iwas only going to keep her until she recovered from surgery and then find her a good home. What can I say, I fell in love with her and she stayed! I´m just a big softie. She is very happy also, and LOVES, LOVES, LOVES being inside.

We are so glad you kept everybody--and Fleabi got a happy ending!

3 out of my 4 cats were rescue cats. Molly and Bella were both at the RSPCA but probably the most amazing story is about my little Gizmo
One saturday afternoon I was at work and a lady brought in a 1 week old ginger kitten (i work at a pet hospital) he was dumped under a bush and she couldnt find any siblings or a mum cat so i decided that i wanted to give this precious scrap of life a chance. I took him home equiped with a nursing bottle, formula and lots of time and love for this bundle of furr! The first few days were touch and go with him as he wasnt drinking much, wasnt pooing and only weeing small amounts. He needed to be fed and toileted every 4 hours so I kept perservering and finally he decided he loved the formula and couldnt get enough of it!
Well my original plan was to keep him until 8 weeks old and then find him a loving new home but it wasnt that easy! Me being the sucker I am for cats would tear up at the very thought of him leaving so i begged my partner who felt we had enough cats to let him stay and i think he got sick of me begging because Gizmo is noe 11 weeks old, an energitic bundle of fluff and has made an excellent addition to the family! Avery happy ending for Gizmo and me

Lavender was found under a car as a kitten. After getting her out, I left her at a safer place as I simply hate separating her from her mum, if any. I returned the next day and she was where I left her, mewing the moment she heard my voice. I took her home immediately. She was severely dehydrated and had a serious diarrhoea. A visit to the vet the next morning and a week later, she´s tearing my house apart.

Peppermint was rescued by a person who couldn´t keep her as he had kids in the house and didn´t want the risk of the kids ill treating her.

Sophie was a Humane Society Rescue cat (she rescued me right back from a life of boredom and loneliness). We´ve fostered dozens of cats and kittens for rescue societies in the last 5 years. This is a great idea for a club! Thank you Jakesmom!

Angie had been in the adoption room of the shelter where I was volunteering for a few weeks when I noticed her. It was love at first sight!! I didn´t want to adopt another cat, but I heard from the vet techs that she had been in the shelter for a very long time. She tends to sneeze periodically and her little nose runs sometimes. This particular shelter had such rigid rules about URI cats and at the first little sneeze or drip, the cat would be taken from the adoption room to the URI room where often they were forgotten about. Finally a vet tech would give them a clear bill of health and back to the adoption room they would go. This had happened to Angie a number of times but no-one could tell me exactly how long she had been in the shelter.

She was 8 at the time I saw her in the adoption room and for some reason, there was an unusually large proportion of black cats. People would always pass her by with "oh, she´s too old" or "darn, another black cat". My heart was breaking and my resistance was wearing down. Finally, one day I overhead a remark by two women that Angie and I looked alike. That was all I needed to hear and we were on the way home as soon as the adoption papers had been filled out.

All of my fur babies were "rescue cats."

When I was 14 my parents rescued Athena from the animal shelter and gave her to me. I don´t know what kind of life she would have had with another family, but I´m so happy my parents chose her for me.

Isis and Ozymandias were rescued from my own backyard. Their birth mother was a stray that showed up one day at our porch. I fed her and made her a little outdoor shelter because I saw that she was pregnant. She ended up having and keeping her kittens under the porch.
I took two kittens (Isis and Ozzie) and put the others up for adoption. They were all taken by wonderful families, even the mother, within a week!

I was in a house in clarkdale when I saw this black cat run by with a lizard in his mouth. I figured he was hungry, so I put out a bowl of cat food outside the back door. I got a dirty look from mr. The black cat ran up and started eating so fast, he was almost choking. he was starving! I refilled his bowl. well, I guess he has not ate in a while, he got sick. I noticed his little head was full of scars. I fed him everyday until a neighbor came over and asked if I was feeding him. I said yes and she was too and she asked if I would take him with me because I was moving soon. She said he was stray and she could not take another cat. this kind lady pitched in for cat food and paid to have him fixed.

I was still thinking about taking him when he saw me outside one day and ran to me screaming. he loved me. he sat on the porch with me for hours everyday and I did take him with me. The neighborhood kids named him "Lou" and I had to take him at that point because he loved me and would be left a second time If I didnt.

the rest is history. his scars healed up and he looks great and is even chubby now. He is my boy!

My Mr. Mr. was a rescue kitty. My mom found him on the streets, while walking to the store. My mom says "He just ran up to me".
She brought him home, he had a scar on top of his head (which is starting to fade a way now). Mr. Mr. has become a part of the family.

Hi! I have Dolly now but before her i had Roshla. she was extremely intelligent and beautiful cat and my mom brought her home when i was 8. she found her in an abandoned yard of a very old house somewhere on the streets in our city. she had skin problems at first - some kind of parasite. but after some time and our beloving care, she got on her feet and became our sweetheart. she´s always been my little sister to me. unfortunatelly, she died almost 7 years ago in a tragic accident and i still have that trauma in my heart. that´s the reason i have a cat again - i couldn´t live without her by my side and i got into some kind of a depression. now i´m happy since i have Dolly becz she´s the most adorable and funny creature in the world. she´ll always be my baby

My mom rescued me and to this day I remember that it was my mom that did this. I was alone and scared and when my mom saw me I stayed curled up in a ball while she patted me. My other mom sent me to the shelter. I didn´t understand. I was hurt so I wasn´t going to let my new mom hurt me too. I stayed away. I hid. But Mom is so sneaky. She talked to me in my hiding places. She gave me treats and she brushed me until I couldn´t help myself; I purred and fell in love with my new mom. Now I am happy but what I always remember and never forget is that it is my new mom who rescued me and loves me now.

Miss Boots was hanging out around my place with her Mom and Sister, they were all very nervous of humans and took a lot of patience to catch. I took Mom and sister to the local SPCA where they were adopted into a really good home together. Boots took me another 5 days to catch, when I did it was obvious she had a bad eye infection so I took her to the vet. The vet confirmed she was totally blind in one eye and supposedly only has 20% sight in the other eye. He also said that because she was a special needs cat, the SPCA would euthanise her which I couldn´t let happen, so she came back home to join the gang. Jackson took an instant liking to her and has protected her ever since (they often sleep curled up together). Boots has lived with us for over two years, she doesn´t go outside into the big bad world and is still very untrusting of all humans including me but she has brought great joy to our lives and is the most active blind cat I have ever met!! - She even manages to jump around the tops of cupboards and book shelves and hasn´t fallen once.

I moved into my new place in 1999 and went to the SPCA to get a cat, one look at Pebbles and I was in love, she was so pretty. The SPCA explained she had been rescued from a family that had been very abusive and she was extremely nervous around all humans but this didn´t deter me. She came home and after a week I began to notice a change, she dint like to be picked up but she would come and sit by my side a purr, after another week we gained a kitten (Misty) and she brought out the maternal instincts in Pebbles - they got along famously. Pebbles grew to be a very fat contented lady who lived with us for 6 years before succumbing to kidney failure. We had her cremated and her ashes are still with us. Pebbles will always be part of our family and I was honored to be loved by her.

I walked into the Shelter on April 21st with the intention of adopting a senior male cat with a kidney problem, since I know older cats are harder to adopt. We took Oscar (orange tabby) out of the cage, and realized he was aptly named: he had a pretty bad territorial streak. We realized he wouldn´t fit in with the other cats we live with (I have 2 human roomates and 3 cat roomates). So, we started looking. We looked high and low - We pretty much took out every cat in that shelter and weighed the odds against our kitty population back at the house. Finally, my roomate went up to Sharon´s cage. Sharon was about 6 months old at the time - a little grey tabby... but she had the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen. Like little emeralds...
She won us over immediately. We opened the cage, and the poor thing was so starved for affection that every time we put our hands down and stopped petting her, she pawed at us gently to start up again.
She was in bad shape... she had a really nasty, deep gash under her arm from (what the shelter said) was an embedded collar of sorts. Apparently she had been surrendered by her former owners with her sister, Kerri. Kerri had become incredibly ill and was sent immediately to intensive care, so, because Sharon´s wound couldn´t be stitched closed, it was doused every night in peroxide ( and all of you know, that smarts!!). She was an angel all through all of the medications I gave her. She was on antibiotics for about 6 weeks to get rid of an upper respiratory infection she had from the shelter, she was about 2 pounds underweight, and of course, the vet gave me more stingy stuff to help with the healing under her left front arm.
It took about a month, but eventually her infection was gone, and her arm all healed, but we weren´t done yet...
Soon she started losing hair. It started around her head, and by the end of it worked it´s way all the way down her back and left nasty sores. I felt so horrible, and the vet said it wasn´t fleas or fungus so I had no idea what it was. I ended up in the ER with her one night cause she was so hot and swollen. (her back). It ended up that she was terribly allergic to fleas, and even one flea bite could incite an allergic reaction that wont stop.
She´s on antibiotics again. And steroids for itch.
But I´ll say this.
All through this she has never bitten, scratched, or meowed... once.
She´s sat still through all the poking and prodding and returned to my bed every night to sleep... preferably on my face, but she´ll settle for my neck every now and again.
I love her so much, it´s probably a little unhealthy, haha; and even though we´ve been through all the rigamorol... it´s totally worth it to have her in my life. She´s gained weight, and even t hough she still has a few bald spots, she´s just as affectionate as ever - I renamed her Luna; and my Luna is my love...

(sorry so long!)

Hello to all and am so very glad to meet all of you. We are Kadi and Smokey. Our mom got us from a lady who was going to take us to the pound if she didn´t find homes for us. The lady who had us took us away from our mom when we were about 3 weeks old. The lady told mom that we had to be bottle fed and we were part persian, which I don´t see in either of us. She said she took our real mom to the vet to have her fixed. We really miss mom. Smokey still tries to suckle, so that tells our mom we are younger than what that lady said, and by our looks we are small for what that lady said also. We have come a long way. We stayed in that lady´s bathroom until our mom came and got us and took us home to be with her and our sister Mustang Sally the dog. We are so happy and healthy and play all the time.

Thank you all for taking the time to share your stories with us. We enjoyed them and even teared up at some of them. With being friends on here we can keep in contact and find out the latest on all of you. Kadi and Smokey

My cat Shahori is a rescue cat. I found her lying on the side of the road hit by a car. I took her to the vet and it turned out that her front paw would have to be amputated. After the operation I took her home and now she is happy and perfectly manages on 3 legs.

Hello averybody!! What amazings stories!! Mine is not that amazing.

One day my mom whent to the dry-cleaner´s and while she was waiting I started to "prrr" "prrrr" around her legs. My mom pat me and I "prrr" "prrr" lauder (it was love at 1st sight )
She ask the lady at the cleaner´s if she knew I belong to someone. She awnsered that I was been aronud for a couple of days and If she wanted to she could take me with her. My mom ask her to call her if anyone showed up looking for his/her missing cat

My mom said that I´am a beutiful and charismatic cat, so everyone else. She was trying to place me in a home ´cuase she had 3 cats already and a 4th would´ve been too much. The days past by and I charmed mom and dad, so when I was supposed to go live to my new home my parents kept me back. Now I have a family: mom, dad and 2 brother and a sister.

I know my life would´ve been a lot of different if my mom wouldn´t took me out of the street.

We discovered Arwyn raking through our wheelie bin 11 days ago. She was in a bad state, very underweight with really badly matted and filthy fur, so my Husband brought her inside and contacted CP. They took he to the vets who were very shocked at her condition, but pleased with her general health besides her weight and coat condition. It seems she´s either been away from home for a very long time or badly neglected.

We´re fostering her for cat protection at the moment while they wait 2 weeks to give her owners a chance to claim her. We´ve all fallen in love with her though, so the 2 weeks can´t be over quick enough. On 7th July once we sign the paperwork she´ll be officially a part of our family.
