I am not very good at Spanish but I shall have a go... (since Italian and Spanish are often quite similar, I have certain understanding of it! )

"all your cats are so cute! Greetings from Chile and thank you for your comment"

lindo means cute, lovely, pretty, sweet etc. etc. in Spanish, like "carino" in Italian!

thank you. I knew 2 of the words but now I know more. thanks again. Teri

Okay......am very excited as i am half Italian and several Italian cats have asked Deelee to be their friend but, of course, do I speak Itailian,......ha!.........that would be a ´no´ but oh, I really want to learn as I want to go to Italy next year or the year after to stand where my great grandmother bid ´good-bye´ to her family in the town square at Ottone, Italy and never saw her family again....my romantic notion of ´isn´t it amazing that some grandchild could return someday and stand there, too´....who would imagine in the late 1800´s something so amazing.....but I really, really digress.....ha!.......so what better way to begin my lessons but with UC translations of some basics that I need to talk to other cats with.......

Please if possible.....translate.....these sentences and ideas.....

"I am so ahppy to have you for a friend (a new friend)....I am in love!"

"You are beautiful" (reference a girl cat)

"How handsome you are!!" (reference a boy cat)

"Do you like to hunt mice?"

"Do you want to share a mouse????.....I get the tail, my favorite part!"

"oooooo, you are so cute!!!......"

"Oh, those eyes, that fur, that look.......I am in love!!!"

"Love, Deelee, a basic mouse-parts-sprinkles cat"

"Thank you for asking me to be your friend. I am so happy to know you...."

´Songbird, Deelee´s annoying Mom in California´

"I don´t spreak Italian but my Mom can translate with a dictionary."

Thanks so much, Joan (Songbird)

Ciao Joan, I did what I can... perhaps they are not perfectly clean grammar-wise (I will never get it right... it´s just so darn complicated!) so you may want to get the verification of a real italian member... one thing in particular to remember in Italian language (like many other languages) the end of many words change depending on male or female. When it concerns male, the ending will be -o, with female -a.

"I am so ahppy to have you for a friend (a new friend)....I am in love!"

Sono tanto felice di averti come il mio nuovo amico (to a boy)/la mia nuova amica (to a girl)... mi sono innamorato! (boy saying so) / mi sono innamorata! (girl saying so)

"You are beautiful" (reference a girl cat) --- Sei bellissima!

"How handsome you are!!" (reference a boy cat) --- Sei bellissimo! or Sei un micio magnifico!

"Do you like to hunt mice?" --- Ti piace cacciare i topolini?

"Do you want to share a mouse????.....I get the tail, my favorite part!" --- Vuoi un boccone del mio topolino? La sua codina è mio! E´ il mio preferito!

"oooooo, you are so cute!!!......" --- oooo, quanto carino/carina sei! (carino/carina can be substituted with tenero/tenera, or dolce)

"Oh, those eyes, that fur, that look.......I am in love!!!"----oh quelli occhi, pelo splendido, e il tuo sguardo... mi sono innamorato/a!

"Love, Deelee, a basic mouse-parts-sprinkles cat" (sorry, I had to pass on this... mouse-parts-sprinkles cat... hmmmm....)

"Thank you for asking me to be your friend. I am so happy to know you...."--- Grazie per il tuo invito! Molto piacere conoscerti!

´Songbird, Deelee´s annoying Mom in California´---songbird, la mammaccia rompiscatole di Deelee in California

"I don´t spreak Italian but my Mom can translate with a dictionary." --- Non parlo italiano ma la mamma riesce a capirlo un po´ con l´aiuto del dizionario

It`s a good translation, your spanish it`s not bad.Gracias Marcelis!! Like I said I can sort of understand about 60-70% of written Spanish, and I do know a lot of individual spanish words, I just lack any knowledge for Spanish grammar so I can´t make up sentenses!! I do love to learn a little one day though.

5.August 2008 09:10

Oh, LiandOllie....thank you, thank you so much.....hmmmm, need to write that in Italian......ha! ha!.......

any way......my studies begin........thanks again......can´t wait to write a few to my new Italian cat friends.....

By the way, my oldest daugther was just 2 weeks in italy in a house she and her family rented for a vacation.....she say, cats are everywhere and loved but dogs are pretty scrawny......do you see this in the area of Italy that you are in......she got the impression that "all of Italy, loves cats".......do you agree????

Joan

6.August 2008 06:29

Di niente Joan, (you´re welcome!) well at least in Rome there are fair share of both cat lovers and dog lovers, though I think cats may be a better choice here in the middle of the city, as most of us live in flats. I always wonder when I see a big dog around the city centre (where there are virtually NO individual houses with gardens around... all apartment blocks!) and feel a little sorry for them, especially those Siberian Huskies in the mid-summer! But in our newly established Italian UDC sites, we have a lot more cat participants than dogs, so perhaps cats are over all more popular in Italy!
anyhow, feel free to ask me if you want to know more Italian! (though as I said, I can´t guarantee an immaculate grammar... )

Please, could a Spanish speaking member contact me?

I have a private letter which needs clear translation into English.

Also, LiandOllie - can I ask you privately some Italian questions some time? I have an Italian member in my club - and it´s sensitive - and the online translators just garble stuff. I´m okay now - but in future, when I get a letter?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Hi JanCarol......just went into the Dummies club and added comments that pulled up our 2 language threads. If you go there you can click on two ladies who say they are happy to help with Spanish translations....pasloma and msamso, both in the USA.......

Hopefully, other ladies from Spanish speaking countries will see your post, but in the meantime, try those gals and see if they can help you......(send a cat mail)...psaloma said ´whenever you need a translation......"

Hope this helps........as to Italian, LiandOllie is very kind and will check this site from time to time but catmail is faster. She is an American, living in Italy.

Yeah I would love to learn more Spanish too, now I am pretty comfortable with Italian, I want to learn the 3rd language!! BTW msamso is a Chilean, married to an american husband and now lives in the US. So she is a native Spanish speaker, and she is indeed always nice and helpful!!

"sono felice avere un amico come te!"
Oops, the last part should be "sono felice di avere un amico come te" I forgot "di"!!!

10.September 2008 11:37

Oh,.....grazie, grazie!!!!

Really appreciate your taking time to help me out.......

ummmm.....if one were trying to say ´thank you, so, so much´.......would one use ´molto´ for ´lot´s and lot´s´ in sentiment???.....I remember my great aunts, etc. saying what sounded like ´molto´ with various words that followed.....or at least, I think so.....I was only a little girl at the time and had not idea what they were saying, nor did they think I needed to know......ha!.....it just seems ´molto´ was a word i remember.......so, do I seem like a real idiot, now........ha!
