CAT MUSIC (with lyrics so maybe poetry?)

I just purchased a new album of Irish Cat Drinking Songs called WHISKERS IN THE JAR that sounds like it belongs in the party club or as if one of my cats could have written the songs. It´s mostly parodies of Irish folk songs with catty lyrics and is by a guy named Marc Gunn and his cat Torre Gunn and the Dubliners´ Tabby Cats. There´s a website that has Celtic cat logo stuff too. I figure music falls into the art section--the album is on iTunes so you can at least listen to one of the songs if you want to.

There are lots of corny songs I sing to my own cat.

Piper is the first cat I´ve had with her own Theme Song.

Her favorite version is when I whistle it. She always comes running, and recently starts purring, too. It´s "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Faery" by Tchaikowsky from "The Nutcracker."

If I have to sing it, the words are: "Little Piper is a Pretty Cat pretty cat pretty cat pretty little cat"

On the rising part, it´s "Pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty little cat"

Not real poetry, I know, but it´s songs I sing to my cat! All of them are inane, and are yet an essential part of our relationship. She knows if I´m singing, it´s something good for her.

And when it´s pooty changing time, to the tune of "The Goodies" theme song:

"The pooties, the pooties, gonna change the pooties Now!"

And when it´s time for crunchies, it´s, "The Little Drummer Boy"

"Do you want some crunchies (some crunchies some crunchies)?
To crunch and munch, munchin´ on the crunch let me bring you good things to munch,
I will bring you good things to crunch, and munch......"

It´s not high art, but hey - it´s one of the fun things about Piper & Me (the pooty song dates all the way back to Bonker & Grendel & early days of Squeak!) that makes us unique. Heaven forbid I should teach the songs to any cat carers......

Good pooty song, JC! The people who do the cat drinking songs do perform at conventions but the songs are extra clever--of course, much of filk is. I love filk personally (purrsonally). The Cindy Mangsen album of Cat Tails is really good and has cat songs by many purrfessional purrformers.

There´s a new band for young people here in Australia, called "Cat Empire" - they sound like South American grooves fused with rap & aboriginal stuff. The first song of theirs that I heard was called "Fishies."

Not quite cat music, but this seems to be a rare topic.

"If cats could have bands......."

They would definitely have a song called Fishies, probably followed by a song called Mousies and one called Birdies. Except Pancho who would write one called Fancy Feast.
