So, today I was snoopervising mom´s morning bathing (and getting lots of loving), when I heard chirpy birds! Well, you KNOW what happened next...I ditched mom to go watch birds. Bird watching goes before mom time!
So, tell me about your bird watching activities!! - Beau

I was having my meal (half hartedly) when I heard a lot of chirping and tweeting in the garden. I rushed out hoping to find another small one in our garden, but the winged-ones were upset about something else - a magpie probably. So I just sat there encouraging them with my chattering. Vali came to join me. - Vitia

I watch the birds nearly everyday. And everyday, the magpies mock me as they flutter around out side, sqwaking and singing. They are so close I could eat them. I cry most of the time at how unfair it is that they make fun of me. Pesky magpies. I will get them one day, and they will make a decent meal for my family. muhuwhahahaha!

Our magpies are gentlepeople, and HUGE. They don´t need to harass me, they strut around proudly like ravens and beg for mince! And mom GIVES it to them! I find pigeons and doves and miner birds much more interesting, ´cuz those magpies, well, they´re kinda like nobility and you don´t want to say the wrong thing to a prince! Might lose an eye over it! We don´t have magpies here, but lately we´ve had some VERY big black birds mom calls Crow. I´ve heard of humans eating crow before, so maybe they taste like chicken or turkey. It would be interesting to try one and see. I´m sure they would be very filling as big as they are!

BIIIIIIIIRDS!!! I´ve got biiiiirds outside my window this morning! And, they keep coming back to the window. I´ve been so excited this morning I´ve had a bad case of the chitters and butt wiggles. I keep hoping to freak one of them. Mom says they look like baby, or young birds, to her, and not to freak them too bad. Geez! Moms!!

In the UK we have a programme every night called Springwatch, and there are lots of birds and their babies featured. Some are very sweet. I am having second thoughts now about catching them in the garden........but I am a cat! What to do? Cats aren´t supposed to like birdies, and I always grab them when I can, but after watching the birdies with their little babies I am having second thoughts. Help! Someone reconvert me!

I caught one today - but mum made it get away. They sit on the netting over our garden and we just watch and they just titter... Vali

We´ve been watching lots of sunbirds in our garden lately. They come to the aloes for nectar in winter and are very exciting to watch because they flit about, chirping loudly. They´ll often swoop quite low overhead, which throws us into a frenzy of twitching tails, quivering noses and squeeky mews. They look as if they´re so easy to catch, because they just about fly into your mouth. Unfortunately, they´re a lot smarter than they look. I´ve only managed to catch one so far this winter - but it was delicious. I gobbled it up very quickly, before my human could even think about rescuing it!! Thandi

Look what I almost got a paw on today! It´s a crested pigeon! Much cleaner than those old city pigeons. I think they are beautiful, and they are so fat and tasty looking! And of course, the ones at my house are grain fed! And did I say fat? And tasty!
I was hiding in the leaves of the banana tree, when one landed 2 cat-lengths from me! I jumped out at it, but it flew away, too fast. Way too fast. How does one actually CATCH a bird?

Here is another crested pigeon story - this was in our newspaper last week. We used to have a carpet python in the roof. The python CAUGHT the bird, but then couldn´t swallow it and had to spit it out. What a waste!
The carpet python in the roof was big enough to eat ME (2m long), but instead he left the roof (we found his shedded skin) and went next door and tried to eat a pit bull instead! The pit bull´s mom was very brave and got the snake unwrapped from the dog and put the carpet python in a pillowcase and took it to a wetland preserve.
Carpet Pythons are lovely snakes, and very popular as pets. We don´t need them as pets here in Queensland, because they live everywhere - all over the city and country!

-Keiyunie-
I always watch for those pesky magpies, and they always mock me. But today, today, they took it too far. This time they were literally perched on my window sill, and were looking at me through the glass. It was so close, I could literally taste, I was drooling. I pawed at the window hoping to make it move, like some windows can. And maybe take a leaping suprise on the feathery appertizer. But, not much luck. I cried at my mummy to let me out, I climbed the door, I wanted that Magpie. My little brother Tally joined in my crusade.. But then.. the magpie..flew away.. *sighs*

We have gray birds called "loeries". They look a little like a parrot and they flap around in the trees eating fruit. They look so awkward that you´d think they´d be an easy catch. As soon as you start sneaking up on them though, they start squawking and carrying on. Their mates will immediately all fly in to join the chorus and suddenly, you´ve got a whole tree full of birds yelling at you. The worst is when they actually all start saying "go way, go way". No I´m not kidding!!They actually say "go way" in a funny, croaky voice, like a grumpy, mad old lady. Now that´s when I usually give up and make a run for it.
Human´s note: Their alarm call is a very clear "go way" - their common name is the "go way bird". They sound very funny when they all get started.

Deelee, Bird Reporter from California, here.......
I think RC, my admirer cat deposited the kill next to my food bowl but he couldn´t help himself, I assume, because he forgot to leave the bird attached to the pile of feathers. He even spread quite a few, everywhere......and.....those feathers were in danger of getting in my food bowl.....wonder if said missing bird was that annoying mockingbird who is always dive bombing my rump......
Must admit, although I prefer the bird to be attached to the feathers, was great fun tossing a few around, pretending the bird was actually, there......
We Californians have lots of opportunities to play with feathers if we can just get those pesky mocking birds.......ha!

Good Grief, Missa Piper.....I just read about that snake on your roof.....you brave cat....thank goodness, he didn´t get you, nor that neighbors dog.......and how kind of your neighbor to take him to a preserve......you must live in very dangerous territory......in California, I only have to worry about I will eat, not what will eat me.......ha!

One quiet morning I just sat at my usual place at the window enjoying bright sunny day and the flying pigeons.Mummy was gone to work.Yeah! finally it was me here alone to enjoy the day without interruption
Suddenly a flycather bird flew into my room. What a surprised! Without hesitated I jumped down to the floor and POP! I´ve got her! wow! it was so easy for my 1st bird. Suddenly she make a move and POOOH! she flew away weakly and fell off behind the box at the corner of the room.
How am I going to move that big box? oh no! until today I still thinking how to move the box until mummy do the spring cleaning and found the "empty dead body" behind the box.
No luck I guessed

Shibula, your loeries "go way birds" sound like our miner birds. They are grey too, and they actually gang up on you and yell at you! Only instead of saying "Go waY" they say, "CAT! CAT! CAT!!!!"

We not only watch birds, but we have a squirrel who comes to our window feeder. He just came up as its empty right now. Guess we´ll have to get mom to head out to fill it and all the bird feeders. The birds are hungry and we want to watch.
We get several woodpeckers, lots of sparrows and goldfinch.
