Birmans come in different colors. Birmans are pointed, tabby or even tortietabby! What color do you like most? And why?

I loooooooove sealpoint birmans. I have a beautiful sealpoint boy called Buddha. The most beautiful thing on sealpoints is that the blue eyes look gorgeous on a dark face.

But I also like the little polar bears; lilac points
Shhhhtt; maybe Buddha gets a little lilac birman buddy in the future....

Birman Colours are:

1. Sealpoint body. This has an even pale fawn to cream body, warm in tone and shading gradually to a lighter colour on the stomach and chest. Points except for gloves are deep seal brown. Paws are pure white. Nose leather is the same colour as points. Paw pads are pink.

2. Blue Point. This body is bluih white to pale ivory shading gradually to almost white on stomach and chest. Points except for paws are deep blue. Paws are pure white. Nose leather is slate and paw pads are pink.

3. Chocolate Point. This body is ivory with no shading. Points, except for gloves are milk chocolate colour, warm in tone. The nose leather is cinnamon pink as are the paw pads.

4. Lilac Point. This body is almost white. Points, except for paws are frosty grey with pinkish tone. Paws are pure white and nose leather is lavender pink, paw pads are pink.

On all four colour types, the eye colour is blue, the deeper and more violet the better.

This is an extract taken from "The Guide to Owning a Birman Cat" by Karen Commings.

I hope this clarifies the types and they are without a doubt in my opinion one of the most beautiful breeds in the world.

I dont have a favourite colour but I am biased towards my own cat, who is Lilac Point but I love them all.

Yes there are more colours Sannie but I´m not sure whether they are recognised by certain registrations and vary from country to country.

I love seal points birmans most - perhaps they are most striking with their dark masks. But I find blue points also lovely.

I don´t have a favourite colour. Snowy happens to be a red-point. I didn´t choose him, he choose us. But I love him, no mather what his colour is.

I love the legend of how Birmans got their coloring. This is the excerpt from the CFA website.

´The Birman cat is believed to have originated in Burma, where it was considered sacred, the companion cat of the Kittah priests. There is a legend as to how the Birmans developed the colors they are today: “Originally, the guardians of the Temple of LaoTsun were yellow-eyed white cats with long hair. The golden goddess of the temple, Tsun-Kyan-Kse, had deep blue eyes. The head priest, Mun-Ha, had as his companion a beautiful cat named Sinh. One day the temple was attacked and Mun-Ha was killed. At the moment of his death, Sinh placed his feet on his master and faced the goddess. The cat’s white fur took on a golden cast, his eyes turned as blue as the eyes of the goddess, and his face, legs and tail became the color of earth. However, his paws, where they touched the priest, remained white as a symbol of purity. All the other temple cats became similarly colored. Seven days later, Sinh died, taking the soul of Mun-Ha to paradise.”

Birmans are truly special.
