About me

I was rescued from the same abuse situation as my adopted sister Louise. Like her, I lived at the Humane League for well over a year while our case continued to go through the appeal system in court. During that entire time, the human who would become my new mom was there a few times each week visiting and spending time with the more than 40 of us who were waiting the chance at forever homes. She knew that when the case was resolved she would be choosing one of the cats to go home with her.

Finally that day came, and she thought long and hard about what kitty would be the right fit with the other 5 kitties that lived there. She considered a lot of different ones, and I won out. I think it might be because I went from being a real fraidy cat when she met me to being someone who LOVED to sit in her lap for hours on end.

She took me home and wondered if she had made a mistake. You see, she really wanted to save so many of the cats and knew that not all of them would end up with forever homes...some would probably be euthanized just because there were sooooooo many cats at the shelter all of the time. She cried a lot those days. But then one time while she was crying she held me close and apologized. She said she was sorry for ever doubting that I was the right kitty. I forgave her right away. I had known all along that she didn´t have doubts because of not loving me. Her doubts were because she wanted all the kitties to get forever homes.

Well, at first in my new home I was bopped around a lot by Rascal. She was a very, very bossy cat and she would smack me in the head. She did not like that I needed so much affection from the humans. But when you were once one of 60 you had to fight for all the loving you could get.

I was very timid and fearful at first. But soon I "came into my own" as mama called it. I became assertive and vocal. I told Rascal that she would have to share the love...and she did.

Those were the best years of my life. More and more kitty friends came to live with us. We always had plenty of food, clean litter, sunny spots, toys, and love.

I loved my mama more than anyone or anything. I would lay on her all the time and talk to her. When she would ask me a question I would answer back. We´d share tubs of yogurt and cuddle up on the bed with the other kitties.

I got 8 great years with my new forever family. Then a sudden onset of severe diabetes claimed my health and life. Mama brought me home to pass, and my special kitty friends laid with me as I gradually lost strength. (Yes, Rascal was one of those special friends who stayed with me to the very end. The girl who had bopped me around was my truest companion.)

The vet had thought that I would have a few weeks of quality life left and that it would have been fine for my family to bring me home for a few days before I crossed the bridge. But that was not meant to be. The final 48 hours of my life were laced with tears and prayers. I became less and less responsive. My mama and Rascal laid with me on the bathroom floor and stroked my fur. Still I clung to life.

Not wanting me to suffer or pass when she could not be holding me, mama decided that we would make a trip to the emergency vet where my suffering could end peacefully.

Though I had been listless for the previous 24 hours, during the 20 minute drive to the vet I was reenergized by PEACH YOGURT! The final taste on my lips was one of my favorites. With mama and dad crying, petting me, and telling me how much better I had made their lives, I passed into the next world...where I am now a happy, healthy kitty waiting to see them again.

What makes me special

I was full of sooooooo much love for my family. When no one else was there, I would listen to my mama´s troubles and make little meowing sounds that would tell her that everything would be fine. I was one of the truest friends she has ever known.
