Why is he in a cage?

I found him bleeding from his bladder and almost dead. Vet didn´t give us any hope. He has 2 broken vertebraes near his tail, the tail is dead, his hip is dislocated and he has no urine control. He is in the cage for his safety until he is strong enough for his next surgery. If we can get him to run good, he will live on the porch.
