About me
I was born in 1994.
For the first couple of years of my life I lived on the streets of Liverpool, then an old lady took me in and looked after me for a few weeks. However, she couldn´t do so for very long, so she gave me to the Liverpool branch of the Cats Protection League.
In 1996 my present owners were looking for a new cat as theirs had just died. They came to the Cats Protection League and met me there, and they thought I would be ideal. So they adopted me!
Favourite food
Anything - I´m a feline dustbin!
Favourite toy
Screwed-up bits of paper
Likes
Food, being stroked, cuddles, other pussies!!, more cuddles, staying out at night, sleeping on my owners´ beds, jumping on my owners´ knees and being cuddled
Dislikes
Liver-flavoured Felix, loud noises (e.g. thunder, doggies barking), going to the cattery, the other cat in our house (Mouser) when he´s in a silly mood!
What makes me special
I was called Henry by the Cats Protection League, but when my owners adopted me they thought I should have another name. They´d read about a black and white cat like me who was called Simon, and was the ship´s cat on HMS Amethyst at the time of the Yangtse incident in 1949. Although he was hurt in the battle, Simon was very brave and protected the crew´s food stores from the rats and mice for weeks on end and the ship escaped. The crew nursed him all the way back to England, where he was awarded the Dickin Medal (the animal VC) for bravery - the only cat to have that honour. (Unfortunately he died before he could be given the medal). I think that´s a lovely story, don´t you?
Anyway, my owners had seen a picture of Simon and thought I looked just like him. They also thought I´d been very brave when I lived on the streets as a kitten, so they decided to call me Simon. This makes me special.
Also, my owners think I´m special because I am very warm, gentle, cuddly and loving.
